Break out the cigars and pass around the party hats - it's official.
Shania Twain's official Web site, www.shania-twain.com, (http://www.shania-twain.com,) finally announced yesterday the country star has given birth. The healthy baby boy, named Eja, was born Aug. 12.
Twain's local fans were glad to hear the news.
Its wonderful, said Roger Richard, owner of the Maple Leaf Hotel where Twain started out. I thought it was great.
Will Saari, site manager of the Shania Twain Centre and Timmins Underground Gold Mine Tour, was so happy about the news he had the Shania Twain Centre decorated with balloons.
It's definitely good news, he said. From the day we heard the announcement she was expecting we were looking forward to the birth.
Saari wasnt the only excited fan. Admirers from around the globe have been posting their choices for the babys name on Web sites devoted to their hero. Nickolas, Wyatt and Dawson were popular boys names while Lilly and Savannah were some suggestions if the baby was a girl.
That kind of excitement, drenched in a sea of swirling rumours, has been growing for weeks.
We heard rumours last week, said Saari. But nothing was officially confirmed.
Those rumours were fueled last Friday when a New York radio station announced Twain gave birth to an eight-pound, seven ounce boy. But there were no official announcements from Twain or her publicist.
It was unsure when, or even if the baby was born.
Twain and her publicist, who kept tight lipped about the pregnancy from the beginning, didnt help matters. E-mails and phone calls from media outlets this week to Twains publicist Samantha Johnson seeking confirmation about the birth were not returned
