Alicia Elliot (I'm Diggin' It) is saying bye-bye to Nashville. The 18 year old Shania fan isn't interested in a "crossover" hit. She's jumping all the way over. Her next album will be all pop and her new Saturday morning Nickelodeum show will raise her profile among the CD-buying teeny set.

In an article about the Grammys, I saw Shelby Lynne, the woman who won the Best New Artist Award, referred to as "former country artist."

It may be that some feel their creativity is somewhat stifled in country. Certainly Lila McCann has expressed such feelings. Every attempt to broaden the base is met with resistance.

Isn't that why KD Lang left too? Think Shania is headed there too?? I don't think it is a lack of creativity that is killing Nashville. It is the fact that they attack artists who are creative and that they can not control. Remember Music City is filled with the good ole boy network that has controled the music for so long. Artists like Shania and Garth are challenging their authority. That is why they attack Faith, since she was a loyal puppet for so long, and has now 'betrayed' them. I think she has some immunity to the attacks since Tim is now a successful producer, so he is now in the club so to speak. Shania on the other hand is an outsider and no matter what she does will be attacked. Guess we are all going to have to live with it, and it looks like Shania has overcome it, so I guess we should too.

In light of this conversation, I thought I would post this article from the USA Weekend Magazine, Sunday 2-25-01:
Is Crystal Gayle, who hit it big in the '70s with "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue", still singing?
Barbara Martin, Selma, Ala.
She's back at it. Having released her first album for kids, "In My Arms", late last year, Gayle soon will finish Sisters with big sister Loretta Lynn. Then she'll start a CD of her own.
Her family -- husband of 29 years Bill Gatzimos, Catherine, 17, and Chris, 14 -- runs Crystal's for Fine Gifts and Jewelry, a Nashville shop she opened 12 years ago because "I love to give crystal as presents but could never find anything I liked."
As for the current crop of country stars, Gayle loves Faith Hill and Garth Brooks, even though they do "crossover" music, like her own "Brown Eyes Blue". "There is real country out there," she says. "You just have to dig a little deeper."
I always liked Crystal. In fact I have a daughter named Crystal! I guess this Crystal looks at Faith Hill and Garth Brooks as the only Country Crossover artists on the block. Oh well, to each his, excuse me her, own!! http://www.shania-twain.org/messages/frown.gif

This from countrynow.com:
Quote of the day:
"It's incumbent on an individual artist to appreciate the audience's opinion."
-- Dwight Yoakam
Now, Shania has been doing this, as mentioned in the Shania interview in the Shania Room, and gets blasted for it. Maybe Brad and the rest of them should listen to the audience before opening their big mouth. Shania has definitely given 110% to us.
