View Full Version : Tour of the Timmins Gold Mine
Hey All!
we can make a reservation to tour the Gold Mine in Timmins as a group...I have twoproposed times and days to offer:
1) Friday morning (either 9.30 or 10.30 am) June 29th
OR
2) Monday morning (either 9.30 or 10.30 am)
Now, I am not sure yet whether the Gold Mine will be open on Monday, since it is still holiday in Canada, but since they look to tourists, they might be open..
If you are coming to Timmins and would like to visit with the Fan Club the Gold Mine, please add your name here below with the preferred date! If we have at least 25 people we get a discount! Otherwise, it is CAN$ 18 for adults, but there are discounts for students, seniors and families.. http://www.shania-twain.org/messages/smile.gif
My preference:
FV- June 29th!
PS: Remember that in the afternoon of June 29th there will be the TV and Radio Station tour for Fan Club members ONLY! http://www.shania-twain.org/messages/smile.gif More info about that to come soon!

I'm there. Either day is fine with me. The problem we may encounter with the 29th is some may be arriving that day. I don't know how many are arriving on the 28th.

Either day is ok by me. I would suggest that Warrior not be allowed to drink any rootbeer for at least 8 hours before the tour as excessive Hyper activity underground from her could result in an eathquake in the Timmins area destroying the very center we're all going there to see and possibly trapping all us underground with little or no access to anything Shania related for an extended period!!!! And Bryce, if your her safety-buddy better bring a hard hat and ear plugs my friend!DOC

Not to worry they supply the hard hat for the tour along with the boots, coveralls and light. As for the ear plugs I'll have to bring them. LOL http://www.shania-twain.org/messages/biggrin.gif http://www.shania-twain.org/messages/biggrin.gif

FV, you can count me and Jessi in on going on the tour too! I'm not sure what time we will be getting into Timmins the 29th though. We are driving so I'm not sure what time we will make it! Monday might be better for us. But hey, if it's for friday, guess we'll just have to get our butts moving a little earlier! Mary R http://www.shania-twain.org/messages/smile.gif

I guess I like the 29th a little better, but I'm flexible. I will be retired and on a 2 week vacation, http://www.shania-twain.org/messages/tongue.gif so what's to get stressed about! http://www.shania-twain.org/messages/smile.gif Not even the root beer crowd will bother me! http://www.shania-twain.org/messages/biggrin.gif

LOL@DOC, Bryce, and Chris!!! http://www.shania-twain.org/messages/smile.gif Doc, I'll have a rootbeer 10 MINUTES before the opening, JUST FOR YOU. HEHEHE Hey, maybe all three of you guys could be my "safety-buddies" HAHA Hopefully I'll cause a mini-earthquake and reveal a secret tunnel to the Shania Centre...then we could all see it 2 days early and sneak in cameras! WOOHOO! LOL Bryce, you won't need ear plugs unless I see Shania. If that happens, well, then I think we all will need ear plugs. hehe

I also happen to be the Manager for the Gold Mine Tour. If the group is serious about checking it out while in Timmins for the opening, let me know and I can get you a group rate.

I guess I'm game for either time but I think the Monday might be better. Some people may not arrive in time for the Friday morning. Also if the mine tour is Friday, that makes Friday rather busy with the TV/radio tour in the afternoon and the face to fact chat in the evening. Sometimes it's better not to schedule too tightly.

I know I would love to go on the Gold Mine tour, but since Jessi and I will be driving most of the 28th and then the rest of the way on the 29th, I doubt if we will be able to make it there in time for the friday morning tour. I'm hoping we will be there in time though for the TV and radio tour in the afternoon. Maybe we could get another group tour for monday for those that couldn't make it for the friday morning mine tour?! If not we will just do that tour on our own, even though it would have been more fun with the fan club members! Oh well, guess I'll live!

I already explained this in detail on another thread, but to help organizers keep data together: I don't arrive in Timmins til Friday noon; and I leave Monday early morning, so both tours planned for our group are not compatible for my schedule.
I prefer to go with people known to me, but I can easily go alone. I've been doing it (going alone) for half a century plus half a decade, and I ain't helpless nor toothless yet. In fact I've probably done more dirt digging, rock picking, gold prospecting and empty mine exploration than the rest of you.
Anybody here (Will S. may update or correct) know that certain kinds of weak acids (such as from inexpensive farm fertilizer) have in the past been used to leach gold out of ore bearing sand or rock? That's not done so much now because of residual pollution. But assuming you have a liquid residue from that with quite a lot of microscopic gold suspended in it, anyone know how to attract the gold out of the liquid solution, combine it into a compact amalgum, then easily remove the pure gold from the amalgum? I watched a hermit gold miner out in the Mohave desert show how to do it years ago, after I showed him how to repair his own electric motors and pumps. His gold extraction method was fascinating. Something we could easily have learned in a basic chemistry class if our attention was focused on that kind of thing. He then dropped a small bag into my outstretched hand, and my hand dropped unexpectedly. Gold is heavier for it's size than one would expect, and I didn't know what was in the bag beforehand. I expect we'll have opportunity to learn about things similar during the tour, including chalcopyrite - fools gold.

Monday would be best for me as well. i will be arriving on the 28th or 29th(i forgot what date i made reservations for, i am driving so i will have to double check). but, like other people said, Friday will be a busy day for us. there will be at least 2 of us coming up, possibly 3. thanks. Hi All
Just to let everyone know, we are planning on having the Gold Mine Tour open on the Monday. If there is anyone who can't make the group tour we will have other times available throughout the day on Friday, Saturday (although the schedule might get screwy because of the opening) Sunday and Monday. I am bringing in extra tour guides for the mine tour on all these days since I expect to be busy. We are going to try and run a minimum of five tours each day, besides anything that we line up as a STUSOFC group.
FV - If we get enough interest, we can also do a pre-organized group outside of the usual tour times. We have done tours at 6 in the morning and at 10 at night (not suggested though, since it's a little dark http://www.shania-twain.org/messages/biggrin.gif )
Will
Thanks a lot Will for the info and the offer! It is really appreciated.. http://www.shania-twain.org/messages/smile.gif I will let you know by email early next week..
