Hello All!
If you would like to get the taxes you paid in Canada to be refunded to you in case you are not a Canadian resident, you can go here: http://www.ccra.gc.ca/
and download a brochure as well as the application for visitor tax refund. Be sure to keep all the receipts, the overall amount of the expenses in Canada whose taxes you want refunded must be at least CAN $200, before the taxes are added, for you to request a refund, and a receipt is refundable if it is at least CAN $50 before your taxes.
"There is NO REFUND of the tax paid on such items as: meals and alcohol; tobacco products; services such as dry cleaning and hairdressing; air, train, and bus tickets (!); car rentals and automotive fuels; rentals of travel trailers and other recreational vehicles; or cruise ship cabins and train berths." So it seems the taxes on the hotel bill in Timmins, if your charges are above CAN $200, can be refunded http://www.shania-twain.org/messages/smile.gif, but don't count on that car rental... http://www.shania-twain.org/messages/frown.gif

the people told me at Enterprise that you can get a tax refund on the rental car. We have to go to the Chamber of Commerce to get a form to submit.

There are 2 taxes - GST which is the country wide one and the Ontario PST (?).

From what I've been able to work out you apply for the GST refund first as you get the receipts back to enable applying for the PST refund - which are then kept by them.

AFAIK you can only get refunds on accoms and items permanently exported from Canada - if I understand the forms correctly.

Receipt value $Can 50 before taxes and a minimum overall value of £Can 200 before taxes.

Seems as though a trip to the Chamber of Commerce is advisory to sort this out.

See y'all in 2 weeks
