"The music industry may be singing the blues, but in Nashville they're dancing to a different tune. According to Nielsen SoundScan's sales figures for the week ending June 30, only two formats have increased their sales in the first half of 2002 over the same period in 2001: country and gospel, both centered in Music City. "

...."Country's sales increased almost imperceptibly, from 30.1 million through the first half of 2001 to 30.3 million this year. But even that 0.7% gain is significant considering how few major country acts have released albums this year."

The immediate future looks even rosier for the country market. The year's second half promises new releases from superstar acts Shania Twain, the Dixie Chicks, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw.

"It's going to be a great year for country music," says RCA Label Group chairman Joe Galante.

Shania will help revive it. Now, if she could just put in the word we need a country station here in NY.
