Hennes forrige plate «Come On Over», som først ble sluppet i USA i 1997, har alene solgt 34 millioner over hele verden, 19 millioner i USA og voldsomme 270000 i Norge.

- Hva har all reisingen hatt å si for plata?

Smakebiter fra «Up!»

«I'm Gonna Getcha Good!»: Første single.

«Not Just a Pretty Face»: Sjeldent klar countryprofil.

«I'm Not In the Mood (To Say No)»: Klassisk Mutt Lange-tungrock i introen.

«Juanita»: En litt kjedelig melodi pakket inn i typisk markedsvennlige latinoarrangement.

«Waiter! Bring Me Water!» Her høres Shania ut som tanta til Britney. TV-spillaktig, orientalsk sound, men ingen hit.

«Nah!»: ABBA-aktig låt med ordrikt refreng og et fint «na-na-na»-løft på slutten.

«Thank You Baby! (For Makin' Someday Come So Soon»: En rett fram poplåt som like gjerne kunne kommet ut i 1986.

Thanks for writing the author. I wrote him, too, before I posted the article. We have to hope he speaks English though.

So, Shania let this person listen to 11 of the tracks? I wonder why...? Can anyone tell if he liked them or not?

I guess Bruce Hornsby is on the album, huh?

no..I think, if my interpretation is correct, that the journalist meant that that ballad on Shania's album reminds him a lot of Bruce Hornsby's piano ballads..so if you were a fan of Bruce in the past, you would know what it means..:BL I do not think the journalist meant that Bryce Hornsby played on the album....unless I am mistaken..:)

I had a reply from the author of the article. Here it is in its entirety:

"hi roger.

the article is not a spoof at all. me and three other norwegian journalists (and reporters from a lot of other countries, i assume) did interviews with shania twain in montreux, switzerland this week. before the interview slots, we were allowed to hear 11 of the tracks for the album. what you saw in my article was a brief description of those 11 songs. very serious, indeed. "i'm gonna getcha good!" is the first single, and it will be released to radio and tv on october 8. i have no time to translate my article right now, but what it says, is basically that she don't think it's possible to be as successful with her new album as compared to the last one, and then she tells about how "up" was recorded in several different countries around the world.

best regards

not too hot on the titles myself.... :( i spoke to my source at universal, and they have not been given any tracklisting and according to them, she never made it to india....she apparently wanted to come here to work on some indian instrumentation, but that never happened. and so far there's been no dramatic change in the album release that may mess things up.

Keep in mind, that's only 11 from the 19 songs, and if you saw some of the titles of COO, they were strange too. Like If you wanna touch her....
You can't really know, what behind the titles. Maybe better to decide how the album really is after we heard it, and not after others descriptions and rumours.
So far there is at least 3 ballads, according to this "article", which is the same relation as in COO. And yet another 8 songs.
I'm trust Shania&Mutt's talent.

The thing is there was no leak before COO, came out. I saw and heard the tracks names and the music at the same time. I hope you are right about Up! BTW, I didn't think the track names for TWIM or COO were weird.

-Chris

Jud
09-07-2002, 03:48 PM
Well, these leaks were mainly confusing.
First we heard, that the album is cheese, and not good, but in the same sentence that will be a great selling success. Then we heard it, it's much like COO, nothing new. And that she only want to break the recordsales.
Now here is this article, quoting her, that she didn't think, this album can be as successful as COO, and that she don't like stagnation in her music, and mainly she wanna be original and unique.
So after all this, I'm waiting for the album to decide, what I think of it. I'm trusting them, and I'm also think, that this album will get her forward from COO. Some fans will like it and some not, she might loose some old fans but earn new ones. This all are questions only, but it's Shania and for me that's the most important.I'm alway be a fan of her voice and music.

Very well said Jud! :clap I cannot have an opinion about whether I like the new album or not until I actually listen to it..no matter what the critics say..or how the titles sound...I need to listen to the music and to the lyrics..
I share Jud and Talkalot's opinion that these may be only 11 of the 19 tracks and that they may not represent (if they are the real ones..) the full flavor of the CD...:GL
If I remember correctly..Shania has always put something new in her albums...so will see what path she and Mutt have taken this time with the new release..:)

As the old saying goes "you cannot tell a book by its cover" - to speculate if the album is gonna be good or bad based on 11 song titles or half-understood translations about 11 of 19 tracks does Shania and Mutt a real disservice, methinks! Surely some English language writers/reporters were at this interview session and we will see their pieces very soon.

talkalot24
09-07-2002, 05:23 PM
Like the old adage goes: You can't judge a book by its cover. Similarly, you can't necessarily judge a song by its title. I am sure there will be fast, fun songs on the album as well as slow ballads.

From everything I've heard-- from people who count-- the album is great! I'm confident in Mutt and Shania. :)

To me, only 2-3 of the above titles seem a little "weird"-- the rest seem like typical Shania song titles. Also, we don't know what is in store for us with the other 8 songs. :)

Will I LOVE all 19 songs? Maybe, maybe not. Will I LOVE a majority of the songs? I'd be willing to bet on it :)

I'm sure not worried. When I really, really like an artist I tend to enjoy most of what they do. Inasmuch as Shania is batting 1000 with the 40 or so songs she's done so far I'm likely to like everything on her new album. What's the worst case scenario? That there would be a couple I didn't care for, leaving me only 16 or 17 I liked, haha. I can live with that.

I was remembering here (after reading bmac´s reply) when I first listen to COO!!!!! LOL!

I was so ancious and with the WIM musics on my mind... well when I heard MAN! I FEEL LIKE A WOMAN! I thought LOL  "MAN! WHAT HAPPEND TO SHANIA!!!!!!! IT`S SOOOOO DIFERENT....... THEM I HEARD THE WHOLE CD and I tought it was all SO difenrent! .... I remember going to school the day after and my friend ask me: "And so? How is Shania´s new CD?" and I said "Well, it´s really diferent..... the songs are a lot difent from the other Cd and even from LGMET"........

well after a couple of weeks I loved COO and today it´s the ALBUM OF MY LIFE... and I bet no one will ever make such a perfect ALBUM like COME ON OVER! :D

I´m goin to avoid guessing from now on!!!! and wait till I hear the new album! LOLOLO!

I have to agree with Chris here. I read the titles and none of them strike me as being typically "Shania". Ok, I know she's been away for a while, but I don't think she's become so diluted as to make up titles like "Ka-Ching". I'll listen to the CD with an open heart and mind, but I gotta tell ya, if any of those songs sound a bit out of whack, I'm gonna be coming here, saying "Huh?"

Tricia and I are taking a "wait and see" approach here. I rembember when COO first came out. I thought some of the song titles sounded a bit strange in comparison to TWIM, but when I listened to it on the way home from the record store I loved every track.

I have to agree with bmac. I have only liked all songs on a CD about 3 times in my life and COO is one of them. But, COO is special for me in that it is the only CD where I liked all the songs the first time I heard it. The others took a little longer. One is Rick Nelson, "The Memphis Sessions" [1986] and the other was Linda Rondstadt's "Living In The USA" [1978]

On ST and TWIM there are a couple of songs I don´t care for. Maybe on the new album there will also be a few songs I don´t like shrugs
but so far reading about the song titles and descriptions, I have no complaints.
I will wait and listen to the cd to know what I like and what I love.
And I am baring in mind that when I got Danni Leigh´s latest album, I was dissappointed at first cause it was a bit different than her last two, which I just love. It took me many listens to start to like the third album too. My expectations were too high and I was expecting a certain kind of style. So it took me a little while.
So whatever I will think about the new songs on UP, I will give them a few listens before I decide if I actually don´t like a certain song or not.
I best like Shania´s uptempo fun songs, and from the list there seems to be some there. So so far, I am happy :)

I love the supposed song titles (if they're true). :) To me, they sound extremely Shania-esque. The titles sound very much in the same style as "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!", "Don't Be Stupid", or "Honey I'm Home!". What's not to like???

To me, the only titles that seem a little different are "Ka-Ching" and "Juanita." Different doesn't equate to being bad though. A song's title is just that-- a title. You can't judge the songs on their respective title.

We're talking about Shania and Mutt here. Can you see either one of them releasing bad material? I sure can't! :)
