View Full Version : I'm new and sad

Hello everyone.I'm new here.
I'm a Shania fan since TWIM.I was very happy the day I bought UP!.But reading all this stuff about Shania's retirement, everytime I listen to UP I fell sad, thinking :"Well, maybe this is the last new album of hers".I know that someday she won't tour anymore, but that's not my major concern.
My major concern is that she will never release another album, that I will never listen Shania singing something new.Deep im my heart, there is a hope, however.I try to think that she will stop touring and being in the limelight, but she won't stop recording new albums(there wouldn't be UP's huge promotion, however).Maybe there'll be some live shows too.
What do you guys think?

Hi Homer! Welcome to our group! But don't be sad. Right now we have 19 wonderful new songs in three different renditions. We should enjoy what we've got now. In fact, that is a good motto for all of life. Everything in life comes to an end. If we keep thinking about the day when whatever it is we are enjoying will not be here any more, we take away from our enjoyment. Carpe diem! Live for the moment! In five years from now, new things, new enjoyments will have come along and, even if Shania never makes another CD, there will still be other things in life to enjoy.

I think Bryce said in another thread that even Shania may not know what she will do in the future. I agree and I think she should not have to decide today what she will do with the rest of her life after Up! I personally don't believe Shania will not make any more albums. She may not tour or tour as much. Shania has said she can't imagine herself still in the public eye in 10 years. But I'm quite a bit older than Shania and I think she will find that she feels just the same person after 10 more years. She can't go on forever being a "babe" but she may well find she still gets enjoyment out of recording and performing. Shania may, in fact, probably will, change her style. Who knows? You may not like what she does in future. All we know is what we have now and we should make the most of that.

That's my outlook anyway.

Reports of Shania's "retirement" are premature. The recent comments she has made that might hint of it are no different than what she has contended all along. Shania has always expressed some discomfort with being a celebrity but this has not prevented her from pursuing the greatest level of success she could achieve in the career she finds herself in. Even as the stories of her alleged dissatsifaction circulate, she is engaged in a massive campaign of publicity and promotion for her current album. A major world tour will take Shania all around the globe with what she promises as an even bigger and better show than she provided last time.

Shania has always been careful to keep a wall of separation between what she now calls "the Shania thing" and her normal life. "Shania" cannot be found at Hollywood or Nashville parties rubbing shoulders with her fellow stars but "Eilleen" might quietly show up at her High School Reunion. Now that Shania's career has thrust her back into the public eye she is consciously mindful to not fall into the "star syndrome" and to keep that wall of separation in place. As a new mother, she likely is more mindful than ever of this.

Mick Jagger, when he was in his early 20's and enjoying his first success as a rock star said, "I'd rather be dead than be 30 years old and still singing 'Satisfaction.'" Little could this young superstar imagine he'd still be rocking on at 60! A few years ago Shania said she couldn't imagine herself still doing "the Shania thing" when she was 40. Well, at 37 it's not so hard for her to imagine anymore and her current tour plans take her close to that territory. Nowadays Shania has modified that to say she can't imagine herself doing this stuff 10 years from now.

For the time being, Shania is out there, rocking the world with new songs and making appearances seemingly everywhere. Enjoy the moment. No one knows what the future holds. This may well be her last big public splash but, then again, she may decide another time she wants to do it all again. I'm pretty sure she doesn't want "Shania" to consume "Eilleen" and will set it aside if she ever has to choose. If and when that time comes, I'll be on her side and as to what she has given myself and other fans I'll say, "Thank you. It was enough."

Haha, I didn't plagerize Roger. This was one of those cases where by the time you write and post something, another post has appeared saying the same thing. Interesting to see, though, how similar our thoughts on the matter are.

LOL Viva!! I don't want to sound like a boring old man but I really think that it takes quite a few decades to develop a realistic perspective on things. While we are engaged in the desperate pursuit of our careers and keeping our families fed, we really don't have much time to step back and see the big picture. Now I am retired and have seen my kids grow up, I am way more relaxed and contemplative. The experience of losing loved ones and contemporaries certainly brings it home too that life is short and we should live in the moment because the "now" is all we ever really have. Whew!! Gettin' heavy!

In short, Viva's and my posts were so similar perhaps because we are at roughly the same stage of life.

if shania does in fact retire completely from her 'star life', we'll still have her classics. :)

i don't want her to do such a thing.... but someday, she has to stop. maybe a few appearences every few yrs...... who knows. ;)

I don't see her doing a huge promo tour like this one again.
She will tour the world in 2003 and 2004.
I think ,most definately, she will continue writing songs.
It is in her blood.
Mutt will still want to work too.But ,I think this is the last of the
huge world tours.
She probably do selected special shows after this huge tour.
ENJOY IT WILL YOU CAN.

I wouldn't be too sad because of this, to tell you the truth.See her alive is very cool, but for me the most important thing is to listen to new Shania Stuff(with her vocals). But I will just enjoy this very moment and support her decision. The most important thing is to be happy, and I want her to be as happy as possible.

D'OH! LOL I LOVE the Simpsons!!!

Well, as a matter of fact, I'm still searching for a "D'OH! Homer" pic to use as avatar. The ones I've found so far are too big.

You know that's why we keep you old guys around-to add depth to what is seen and felt, to add perspective to sadness, to add hope to desperation, to keep the dream alive-just to keep the dream alive. DOC

Welcome to the family, Homer! :D And fear not... I just don't feel like Shania's ready to get her retirement watch just yet. I've seen too many references to her having things she still wants to do. Like an eventual Christmas album for one thing. And when that day does come? THEN we can all sit back, marvel and think "wow... how blessed we are to have lived in her lifetime." Her music will be around longer than any of us, but we got to watch the magic happen. Now how cool is THAT?

Welcome to the Boards Homer, I love the Simpson's too, there is a bit of Homer (and Marge) in us all ;)

I have been around planet Earth for more than 5 decades now and I have no doubt I am a better person for it. Slow to judge and more tolerant of others. As for Shania, it's her call - but I think we have a lot more music to come.

In Robin Eggar's Bio he states that Eilleen had a massive amount of songs written before her teens but lost them when they moved house. I have a feeling that some of those songs will re-appear once things settle down a bit.

Time will tell.

Hi Homer!:) Are you still trying to grab Bart's Butterfingers?:D :D
Welcome to our little, growing family.:)

I do think Shania's big touring time is on borrowed time, but I also firmly believe that with the exceptional talent she has, she will always be coming out with new music. It may be a while between such releases, and touring may be rare, but I think she loves singing too much to totally quit. Of course there is always the strong possibility and probality that we will often see her trade-mark on many other artists hits as time goes on. So, I say not to worry. We'll be seeing Shania in some form for a long time.:)

Steve I hope she will do some work for country artists also. You could not pay me to buy or listen to the tunes she has done so far for pop artists.
