Yeah..it was not working for me either tonight..:( At their official site (www.mirc.com) they have a new list of servers you can download..this is updated and may give you more servers you can use..I think...but definitively the whole MIRC system has not been working very well in the past 2 months..weird thing is that it was working OK I thought last nite..
I can have a temporary javascript based chatroom ready if MIRC is not working next week too..I'll give it one more week..:)

Hello all,

The problem isn't with mIRC but with the DALNET servers which have lately been experiencing denial of services attacks. Statement from DALNET being:

"As of midnight GMT on 8th December 2002 DALnet has been experiencing what appears to be a systematic and planned Distributed Denial of Service attack.

This assault on our servers has rendered many of them inoperable and has virtually closed DALnet to normal use. We have no information on who is behind these attacks or what they hope to gain by depriving users of our services and causing extreme inconvenience (and incurring significant cost) to our hosts. " - http://www.dal.net/

A list of currently active servers can be found at: http://www.dal.net/servers/index.php3

Moving the chat to somewhere else would be a very good idea, still preferably on IRC. At the moment, AustNET (http://www.austnet.org/) seems to be the ideal network to move to, an originally australian based network, now with servers in europe and the US.

I will set up a new channel #shania on the AustNET network and if you guys like, try it out.

Fv, i'll update the chat pages on the web site to reflect the new settings and send them to you if you like.

Users should register their usernames, existing channel operators on DALNET can contact me by sending me nickname "ausinatra" a MEMO ("/msg memoserv help" for more info) or an email at "andy.gock at studentmail.newcastle.edu.au". This is for mail regarding channel admin issues, other questions, please just reply to this thread :)

Regards,
Andy

Due to lack of any type of interest of moving networks, the new room has now been dropped. I guess we will continue using DALnet. A quick way to find out which servers are currently working is to bookmark this site http://irc.netsplit.de/networks/DALnet/ which lists currently active servers.
