.....Right now, one of the biggest issues is lack of confidence, both with the dead-last PK and the 27th-ranked "power'' play.

"It's only natural, especially with young guys,'' said defenceman Steve Staios. "When you get older and more experienced you learn how to deal with it a little bit more. We're trying to defend against that in here. It's a tough responsibility but we have to take it on as veterans to keep the right attitude in here - make sure guys are dealing with this in the proper way. You can't be uptight.''

But you can't go on with the worst penalty kill in the NHL for very long, either.

"That number on our stats board should be motivation for us to do everything possible to kill penalties,'' said Moreau. "We need that desperation. It's a pride factor.''

If there's hope on the horizon, it might come in the form of good luck charm Shania Twain. Last time she played Edmonton she signed the board in their dressing room and they went on to beat Detroit and put together a healthy win streak.

So MacTavish is glad she's in town, right?

"I don't know,'' he said. "Can she kill penalties?''
