Mendez Closed for Good
 

I'm sad to report that Mendez, one of our local watering holes, has officially closed for good.

Owner has packed up all the furnishings and will sell them all this week in an effort to salvage some losses.

It's too bad too. Was a nice place.

Tom will certainly miss Mendez.

Yikes!:( It seems we are not bringing good luck to places we eat at in Timmins..in 2001 we took over the Irish restaurant and then it closed down too....:lookout

Could you send an email to Tom about that. He was asking me for news from Shania land today. I'm not active on that many threads, so I missed this item and others. I'm sure he'd be interested.

Since Mendez was literally paces (maybe a hundred plus steps) from Tom place, that'll be a big blow for him. If he hadn't had to go off to the Antarctic, his patronage alone would have been a boon to their pockets for a while. Sounds like the "bar" police in the Timmins area are out to make a name for themselves. I agree with keeping rules on under-age service or health control issues but for some reason it seems it's become more than that. And the space that Mendez had from what I could see when we did karaoke there during the homecoming could had supported the anticipated fan/con attendance increase that we'll probably be seeing this time around. Too bad.

That is really sad about Mendez closing up...That really takes us all by suprise to see the bar close up so soon...This does not portend well for the economy in Timmins...

Gee that's too bad. Mendez holds a special place in our hearts.....first time we were ever followed by the police and pulled over! Guess the cops will have to find a new place to lurk to try and catch people!
