Billboard Music Awards Performers Generate Significant Sales Gains
Ratings Increase From Previous Year
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 18, 2003--On charts released Wednesday, Dec. 17, by Nielsen SoundScan, 13 of the acts that either performed and/or won on FOX's Dec. 10 Billboard Music Awards have sales gains of at least 21 percent, with nine of those gains beating the week's overall 30 percent volume lift.
Billboard Century Award honoree Sting stole the limelight with his performance of "Send Your Love" off his "Sacred Love" album, which experienced a 45 percent gain. Other performers whose album sales increased were Shania Twain, who walked away with three awards including Country Album of the Year for "Up!" (up 43%), Foo Fighters with "One by One" (up 63%), New Group Artist of the Year and Soundtrack Single of the Year winner Evanescence with "Fallen" (up 53%), four-time winner including R&B Producer of the Year R. Kelly with "Chocolate Factory" (up 31%) and four-time winner including New Female Artist of the Year Beyonce with "Dangerously in Love" (up 33%).
