Officer Injured In Hit-And-Run

OMAHA, Neb. -- An Omaha police officer was recovering from surgery Wednesday morning after a hit-and-run near the Qwest Center Tuesday night.
Paul Lawson, 38, was working traffic for the Shania Twain concert when he tried to stop a minivan at 10th and Dodge streets. Witnesses said the officer yelled at the van driver to stop, then grabbed onto the vehicle. The van dragged Lawson about 150 feet.
Tiffany Lothrop said she watched the events unfold. She said the officer hit the ground hard. Lawson was rushed to a hospital where he went into surgery for a head injury.

Meanwhile, his fellow officers looked for the person driving the minivan. The Omaha police helicopter searched from the sky, while officers on the ground deployed stop sticks. Two hours later, the van's tires were punctured and the vehicle was surrounded near Interstate 480 and 20th Street.
Police arrested the driver, but have not yet released his name.
