Well that's part of the experience that the sound booths try to give you, although not with Mutt's desire for perfection. But each person gets to do several vocal tests, from humming one simple tone, to holding a note for as long as they can, to a few other things that aspiring singers must endure.

Then, only after you complete those tasks, do you get to sing along with one of ST's songs.
