What were the odds?

That was the question going through Nora Olvera's mind on Sunday, the day after she was called on stage to sing "You're Still the One" with country music superstar Shania Twain at the United Spirit Arena.

What were the odds that she would land floor seats, the odds that Twain would be looking at her and, most surprisingly, the odds that this particular song would be chosen?

Twain

The headliner told a crowd of about 12,000 that she needed someone to help her sing "You're Still the One."

Kymberlie Olvera, 13, Nora's daughter, told her mother in no uncertain terms to keep standing and raise her hand.

Only after Olvera impressed Twain with her knowledge of the song did the Plainview native reveal that she had surprised her husband, Ramon, by singing "You're Still the One" to him at their wedding December 19, 1998, at St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Hale Center.

Three days after the concert, Olvera still was trying to convince friends in Plainview, all of whom replied, "No way!" before sharing her happiness.

Even landing her seats had been sheer luck, she said.

"I waited five hours to buy them at a Select-A-Seat outlet at a United Supermarket in Plainview," she said. "At first the (salesperson) had us sitting higher up, then she said, 'Oh, my, two floor seats just opened up. Do you want them?"

Olvera has performed in church in the past and said that she has been asked to sing a number of Shania Twain songs at friends' weddings. But she saved "You're Still the One" for her own wedding ... until sharing it with thousands.

Before she left the stage, Olvera was told by Twain, "You have a very beautiful voice."

The Plainview fan then whispered something in Twain's ear, revealing later, "I just told her she is a very beautiful person."

Olvera has been unable thus far to find anyone who took clear, sharp photographs of her duet with Twain, but she's still not likely to ever forget the experience.
