Sorry canadarocks, maybe it was me who did not understand. It is kind of wierd because after seeing the show on the TV I can understand what everyone was saying about her voice but I can assure you that at the show her voice did not sound like it did on my TV. I have no idea how to explain this - her voice was fantastic at the actual show. Again in the "5 second" interview she didn't get her mike clipped to her blouse very well. When she talked with her head tward Leno (and closer to the mike) she sounded fine at the show. Mostly what she said about the Super Bowl was that it was going to be fun and she was excited to do it. I wish she would have been on longer but as someone pointed out a year ago we would have given our eye teeth for just one small picture let alone a performance and short interview so I'm counting my blessings that I got to see her live with an audience of only 350 people. I fact I was close enough when she was doing the short promo with all of them to have touched her if the camera was not in the way. I guess you could say that I was a camera away from her. Bye the way she is even prettier in person than in any photo that I have seen of her!! It was just FANTASTIC!!!!

WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is what I was like after the Tonight show!!!! I wanted SO much to jump on the net and post about how excited I was about the show, but my stupid room mate kept complaining about the TV being on so late. But anyway...I did notice how Shania tucked her foot underneath her. I laughed because that's what I always do when I can't reach the floor either (I'm just 5' 3"). I absolutely LOVE the LIVE version of UP!!! Debbie--I'm glad you got to see her! I would've LOVED to been there!! Sorry to hear they wouldn't let you wear your stitch in there though. I can't wait for the Superbowl!!! As far as Shania's new fashion style, I think I'm getting used to it...I'm not as shocked now as I was in the beginning when I see her wearing...unique things. LOL But like we said, a year ago we were fanatic just to see a little new pic of her, so now I could care less what she decides to wear, as long as she's out there performing!!!

What ever people say about her voice,her clothes,I know I was worry about her health,TOO, and I know live t.v. is difficult to get across.She did seem a little off on t.v.

having said that,I have nothing but more respect for her preforming on ,Leno, last night. If she was sick,she could have easily cancelled,but she did not. You and the others waiting for hours in the cold would have been really disappionted.Shania, knew that, I think.She also knew that he critics might have had a field day,with this.She did not care.Her fans are most important.She is real pro,the show must go on.THANKS SHANIA.

I have felt her voice was not quiiiite there for the last few performances. I've been wondering if she isn't searching for the voice that Mutt finally brought out in her. That lower in the throat range she's mentioned. She wondered if she'd be able to find it when she was performing live on a stage. If that is the case, how Shania of her to say I want this, and work on it as she's performing instead of just slipping back into old habits (those were incredible habits, by the way )

I relate this to my long-time being a fan of Elvis. There are many impersonators around, but so far, there is always something that gives them away. Elvis had a certain way of singing certain words and I am very familiar with that. I expect to hear him sing that way. I pick up on those things with impersonators no matter how good they are.

The same thing applies to Shania. Most of us are long-time fans of hers and have come to expect her to sing and mannerize in a very distinct way. So, when we see her like on the AMAs and Leno last night, and she doesn't sound quite the way we are accustomed, then we get a little concerned. It doesn't mean we are criticizing her, it means we are simply not experiencing Shania's voice the way we are accustomed to. And, just as we would for anyone we feel close to, we worry. For both performances, it was all vintage Shania, surprising us as always with a new cute little twist to her show, but she also did not sound just right vocally. Last night there were times when she seemed off and at the end of UP when she sings "I'm Going Up, I'm Going Up", it almost seemed as if she couldn't get going to come out and she went lower to do it. Her interview with Jay, short as it was, was Shania at her best. I agree in that I hope whatever it is clears up before the Superbowl, because she has a golden opportunity to Score Big with UP and kick it through the Up Rights for a Winning Play.

Welcome to the board!

I want to begin this post by saying this is not a personal attack and just an observation and a little bit of a bio about us.
I was reading your post and it bothered me a little when you said you felt like you were reading reviews from critics rather than from loyal fans.
I think I can speak for most of us here but if anyone feels I am incorrect,please feel free to step in at any time.
Alot of the people on this board have been here for a number of years and others are somewhat new.
I personally consider everyone here as my "Shania Family".
Every member on this board treats other members with respect and allows for everyone to share their own personal opinions and even if other members may not agree,no fights ever happen because we must respect the fact that people are unique and ofcourse may not share the same opinion as others.
This has to be the most accurate,comfortable and respected Shania website due to the hard work of the moderators and also the members.It is a credo we have to respect Shania's privacy and I admit I have innocently posted about articles I have read in magazines and was kindly told in an e-mail that my post had been deleted because it invaded Shania's personal life and privacy.I know the moderators and alot of members put alot of work into this site by updating her next appearance on Television,Wing,Ford,etc always provide awesome screen caps for our enjoyment and the moderators go to alot of work keeping news,reviews and photos from Shania's European appearances and so many other appreciated gestures.

When we post reviews based on our own personal opinions of her performance,we are not at all trying to critisise her.
It was a bit obvious during the AMA's that Shania may have had a touch of a cold but on her Jay Leno appearance,it was very obvious her cold or throat problems were more pronounced but Shania is a trooper and gave the performance her best shot even though she could have cancelled due to illness,she did not because she is very dedicated to her fans and it was a great performance!

When we have posted about her voice being a little off,it is more out of concern that critisism.I do hope she can get to a Dr. and rest her voice before the Super Bowl but knowing how health conscience and responsible Shania is,I know she will do just that so she will be able to give us fans an amazing half time show.

I personally love and respect Shania with all my heart and soul and her music has brought me through the good and bad times of my life.I was diagnosed with Cancer and I always played her music during my treatments or after my operations because her music comforted me more than painkillers.
I am still battling this and I will not give up and it has been Shania's music and also the support of my friends and some are from this board.
I had the chance of a lifetime on 11/11/02 to go to the Much More Music headquarters where she was doing her live show and I stood outside and waited for an opportunity to be able to give her the bouquet of flowers I had specially made for her mixed with a white rose,a lilac coloured rose,an orchid and baby's breath and had it all wrapped in cellophane with a big purple ribbon and also the card I had wrote to her telling me how much her music has touched my life and that she is an inspiration to me.
I finally got up close enough near the end of the program and Shania was coming over to my side and she looked at me and saw the flowers I was holding up and made eye contact and smiled that mega watt Shania smile.I was about to reach out to give her the flowers and card when a fan pushed me aside and I lost my footing so he could get an autograph.I regained my footing and took some more photos but by then she had moved on to the other side.I was really upset but a lady whom works for Much Music came over to me and said she will deliver the flowers and card to Shania.
I often wondered if she had really received them and I got my answer when I received a Christmas card from her in the first week of December.

So,ExoticPersonage,I hope you feel better now and I look forward to seeing you on the board and just remember,you are in good hands here and the members here are absolutely amazing so I know you will enjoy yourself.

Although we critique Shania, please don't think we are blasting her. As fans we will and won't like some of what she does and that's o.k. Just like I want my friends and family to be truthful with me, we do the same with our comments of Shania, respectfully. And of course Shania attracts fans from everywhere!
I do feel, as stated, that we are concerned about her voice. Now Debbie says it sounded different in the studio, how weird is that?
But that would make all her performances so far consistent. Maybe if you were there they all sounded fine.

Now if it's not a technical clintch, I don't know whats up. I don't believe she's searching for this so called different voice. She would not have ever appeared not having it. And to be honest I'm not sure what it is I know she stretches her vocals in the new music, and has that laid back flowing stuff that sounds like you need a couple drinks in you(or I would) to make it flow that way, but I guess I don't call that new. Anyway............I guess I'm done
