Not all fans I've always renewed and will again. I haven't been disappointed with the DVD's and whatever goodies are included with the packs.

The DVDs have had some good things on them.

Yeah, but you're from the States. Fans outside the States are paying more, and getting less, much less. It is natural that they are more hesitant.

I understand that. I just wanted to clarify that it's not all inclusive. I didn't realize the fan packs contained less things for some.

Not the fan-packs, but all the rest: no contest, ticket-presales etc.

Now personally, I don't care about all those stuff, yet it still won't make the feeling go away, that as an international fan, I am handled as a second rated.

And I find a bit puzzling, that after five years Shania still did not find a way to fix this. Or at least to check it out if her fans were threated properly on behalf of her...

It is indeed strange. I can understand the reasons for shutting down the original fan club, and why it was again neccessary to start one up for promotional purposes... but why not do it properly..?

Mysterious stuff.

I don't think that ANY of us understand why she's "washed her hands" of her own fan club. We all know she shut down the one that was run by her sisters and friends in Timmins because she couldn't be involved in it anymore. When Mercury wanted it started up again in 2002, she said she didn't want any involvement in it. But still, a note every now and then wouldn't kill her, you know?!?
Anyways, I'm still going to renew, it'll be my fourth year and I've made some good friends there.

I renewed one more time this past November. It was a hard decision. I don't take spending money for literally nothing lightly. I mean look at what you get when you open the home page, the same story for weeks on end. Shania to appear at the Kennedy Center Honors for example, great, but where's the follow up after the show? Nope, moved on to CMT Loaded. Now we will be seeing that for who knows how long when we open the site. You would think of all sources, this would be the one to give her fans some nice tidbits from the Kennedy Honors and any other good things in her career.

I too can understand why she didn't want to continue with her Timmins Club. I just missed it for the record. I sent in my application just as it was ending, and they sent it back to me with "no longer in existence" or something like that on the envelope. So, when the OFC came up, I thought it was a "no-brainer". It wasn't a hand operated manual organization. It has all the bells and whistles available to it. The only bell missing is the most important one. I totally agree with Angie and I am glad she made the point. It's been on my mind for a long time. We sure could use a little good news today, to quote an Anne Murray song.

Carolina, international fans could not buy tickets for overseas concerts for UP tour at all through the FanClub, but to my understanding could buy tickets to US or Canadian concerts, same as everyone. But most are of course interested in getting tickets to a concert near them, and for Europeans for example that was not possible.

For international fans the FanClub does not offer everything it offers to US residents. Membership is more expensive, you cannot enter any contest and you cannot get tickets to your local concert through FanClub pre-sale.

If you would be interested to join, you should also know that customer service is very poor, and as for information about Shania you will get it much faster and more extensively through fan run messageboards like the Boards or Forums.

What you would get by joining is access to the contents of the website, and a package once a year. Please note that situation with packages is not simple. They seem to send the package one certain time of a year no matter when you joined. Last couple years it has been February/March date. This has caused the following: for example people who joined in November when FanClub was opened, they do not get that year's package before their current membership has expired or they renew. Expiration or renewing in November, these people get their membership package next spring.
Last time they also had problems in the sending of the packages, some members got nothing and some got several. For example I received 2 packs, and sent the extra to a friend who did not receive his package at all. I figured it was easier than him sending e-mails to FC to complain. So the FanClub run by MusicToday isn't quite up to standards of normal business conduct. Many dedicated international fans have not tolerated the poor customer service and value for money and have thus not renewed.

If you are interested in joining, I just wanted you to know the various details before making your decision. I feel everyone who joins nowadays should know what they get before paying. That way people who wish to join know the situation and will not be sorely disappointed if they had expected more.

The way I look at it for me is would I have spent the same amount I paid for membership on the DVD's alone, had I found them at a music store. And yes, I would have spent that amount for those DVD's at the store, so I haven't wasted my money.

Sheri, that is what it's about, expectations and knowing what you get for the money. Hence my post above.

Although Shania has no involvement with her fan club at present, I think if she was made aware of how poorly run it is and how fans feel ripped off, this may give her cause to intervene. I understand that Pink, one of her favourite artists, is very involved with her website etc. Maybe Shania could take note?
