David Steinberg was funny and edgy as always.
What a wonderful, wonderful show!
I was so moved by the tribute to Toller Cranston. Not because he comes from my hometown but because he could have had the world crown year after year but never did because he refused to be bound by the then narrow confines of figure skating rules. He changed figure skating forever. Toller gave an overlong but eloquent plea for creativity.
Then the tribute to the wnderful Lynn Johnston. Lyn was as human as ever. She dropped her award and it broke!!
Now is the tribute to Jim Elder.
I bet they leave Shania's tribute to the end.

Roger, make sure you tell us everything Shania says. I hope she don't drop her award!

I wonder who is going to do the tribute for Shania????
I also hope the STC has lots of pics of this when we go. Too bad they couldn't get a replica of the star to put in the cement infront of the center.

The dress is going from Shania to the STC.................
The last of the stars to arrive was Twain who declared she was very honoured and found it fantastic to be back in the company of her fellow Canadians.
"It's really incredible when I travel around the world and people actually don't realize how many talented and famous people come out of Canada. And I'm always reminding them!"
Asked why she now lives in Switzerland, she replied that it was all part of the travelling that is required of her career.
"Who knows? Maybe some day I'll go full circle and end up right back in Timmins, Ont."
Asked about the new Shania Twain Centre that opened in Timmins in 2001 she said she was honoured.
"I thought museums were for dead people, so at first I wasn't too sure if I liked the idea. But I'm really proud of my hometown and I'm honoured that they have the centre there.
As soon as I slip out of this dress, it'll go off to the Shania Twain Centre."

Tom Cochrane gave a really nice intro for Shania. Then a group I have never heard of called The Ducks (I kid you not!) sang a medley of Shania songs (WBHYBBU, YSTO, MIFLAW and Up!) in what can only charitably be called a hillbilly style. You could be forgiven for having trouble even recognizing the songs. Shania came up for her speech. She was wearing the same dress she wore for the unveiling. She was at a loss for words at first because everyone else had already said everything she was going to say. So she spoke from the heart. She said Canada is her home. She is Canadian through and through. People everywhere are happy she is Canadian. She stands for what Canada stands for. Shania spoke of her passion for music and the difficulties of starting up in a small town. Canada will always stay in her heart. By this point the lump in my throat was the size of a tennis ball!!
Oh, BTW Shania's brother is sitting behind her. I think it is Mark but I'm not very good at telling them apart.
Lorne Michaels is next.

Um, not quite but she was moved. Actually, she was really stuck for words at the start. I have never seen her so tongue-tied.

Was she kind of embarrased that she didn't know what to say?
