2011 ACM Awards

Ok. I'm watching the 2011 ACM Awards and right now Carrie Underwood and Steven Tyler are singing together. First they come out singing her song "Undo It" and then they finish their performance with Steven's "Walk This Way". I did grow up listening to Aerosmith and I have no problem with this, except that everyone for so many years, gave Shania so much flack about being too 'Pop' and now it's ok for a country singer like Carrie Underwood to come out singing with Steven Tyler? What happened in the industry? Did I miss something? Is Nashville suddenly alright with Rock singers invading Country Music? How come Carrie Underwood and the others don't get ripped to shreds over this like Shania did for so long? It just bothers me that Shania Twain was hated for so long for everything she did and all she was doing was laying the groundwork for the future. An iconic and undercherished woman.

That's because Shania was the pioneer. Pioneers always take the arrows in the back. Nashville has no star material right now. Think about it. The "legends" are all on the back burner. Shania, and Garth still hold their place. No one has stepped into her boots, or his hat. They have Underwood and Swift, and Rascal Flatts...YAWN. Basic cookie cutter replacements for artists like Faith Hill who was just a wanna be Shania. All the current stuff is aimed at the kiddies.

Artists who are Shania's contemporaries are not getting the same amount of attention as they used to. Since I moved to Texas, I have been listening to a bunch of local artists, and their brand of country / southern rock is much better than what Nashville has going on. Some of the music is more closer in sound to Shania's TWIM than the nashville pop.

Sara Evans seems to be going in the Shania direction in outfits... funny how she used to slam Shania back in 2002...

It is interesting how the people who attacked Shania and looked down at her for bringing something new to country music have followed in her footsteps.

I turned it on as soon as I saw the message that Shania was spotted at the MGM.

She has a book and a TV series coming out next month. I would think she'd be at the ACMs.

Nope, she wasn't there.

If someone really spotted her at the MGM, I don't know how they didn't get her on camera. Why would she go but not get on camera?

If he was there maybe she didn't want the publicity, she just wanted to see the show.

Maybe, even though with everything she has coming out, the publicity is good!

If she was there, there's no way at least a photo won't get out!

I've always loved Southern Rock like Alabama, Lynrd Skynrd, Charlie Daniels, Eagles and yeah even ZZ Top.

I also agree Shania opened the door for all these happenings now at the award shows. Oh, and did I say awards shows?? They barely give away any now. It's mostly performances. Thirty years ago, it was pretty much awards with a performance thrown in now and then. To me an award show is just that. You can watch these stars sing anytime on CMT, GAC, etc.
