Billboard's Hot 100
Billboard's Hot 100
To celebrate the Hot 100 chart's 50th anniversary, Billboard reveals the top 100 songs of all time.
Shania's "You're Still The One," which peaked at #2 on the Hot 100 chart on 5/21/98, came in at No. 66. Written by Shania Twain and then-husband Mutt Lange about their relationship, "You're Still The One" was the artist's first top 10 and most successful single on the Hot 100. Twain won two Grammy awards in 1999 for the track, as well as song of the year at the 1999 BMI Country Songwriter Awards.
Over on the Hot 100 Country Songs chart, Shania's "You're Still The One" is No. 3.

I’ve been looking at list of the “hottest” country songs in the last 50 years by Billboard magazine, and Shania Twain’s “You’re Still the One” is already at No. 3, even though it’s only 10 years old. However, if she wants to claim the top spot someday, she’s got her work cut out for her. Johnny Horton’s “The Battle of New Orleans,” the enduring smash hit from 1959, is No. 1. (Funny, I never thought I’d write “hottest” and “Johnny Horton” in the same story.) Kenny Rogers‘ “Lady” is No. 2. Great. Now I’ll have that song in my head all day: “Let me hold you in my arms fa-ah-ah evermore …”

" In 1814 we took a little trip"......... Yeah do I remember that song. Ironically Horton got killed in a car accident by a drunk driver in 1960 I think. He did a couple of other similar songs after this one, Sink The Bismark, and North To Alaska which ended up being the theme for the movie of the same name starring John Wayne and some pop star at that time called "Fabian".
But my favorite Johnny Horton song is Honky Tonk Man. It was his first big hit back in 1956. Then 30 years later Dwight Yoakam made it a hit again. " I'm a honky tonk man and I can't seem to stop. I love to give the girls a whirl to the music of an old jukebox. But when my money's all gone I'm on the telephone
Hollerin’ Hey Hey Mama can your daddy come home".........
Still, as much as I like it, being a honky tonk song and all, lyrically and musically, it is not close to YSTO.
Steve

I agree with you Steve about Shania's song! I've never heard the original version, but I do know Dwight's version and I really like it!!
