Surprise! SHANIA TWAIN personally made the announcement during last night’s American Music Awards that she will be the host of this year’s Juno Awards. The announcement that was played back last night was taped last month in Spain. “I can’t wait,” she says. “It’s going to be a lot of fun.” Ross Reynolds, Chairman of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences said, “She’s a spectacular talent, a wonderful person and an outstanding ambassador for Canadian music. Shania is no stranger to accepting and handing out awards. She’s won 8 Junos in the past. The Juno Awards are being held in Ottawa this year on April 6th.

Okay, I have calmed down now, kirppu (more or less). I was just stunned. I really really did not expect her to host the Junos. I would have but for the fact that she had committed herself to that Flameworthy thing in Nashville the day after the Junos.
Also, imagine that Shania is coming to the town where you live. How would you react?...LOL

Yeah CMT did it last year and in past years it was rebroadcast on network TV - let's hope one of the majors scoops the rebroadcast rights up ASAP so all of North America and more can see this show!!

Shania Twain To Host 2003 JUNO Awards Telecast
Press Release
FOR EMBARGO UNTIL:
10:30 p.m., Monday, January 13
Shania Twain To Host 2003 JUNO Awards Telecast
32nd Annual Canadian Music Awards
To Be Broadcast Sunday, April 6 on CTV
TORONTO, January 13, 2002 * The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences together with CTV announced tonight that record-setting singing sensation Shania Twain has signed on as host of the upcoming 2003 JUNO Awards telecast. The announcement was made by Shania in a pre-taped message to Canadians as part of CTV’s broadcast of tonight’s American Music Awards. The 2003 JUNO Awards will be broadcast live on Sunday, April 6 at 8 p.m. (ET) from the Corel Centre in Ottawa-Gatineau, Canada’s Capital Region.
It’s the first time Shania has ever hosted the affair and the first time since 1998 that she has attended the JUNOS. In addition to hosting, Shania will also perform.
A multiple JUNO, GRAMMY and ACM Award winner, the Timmins-born superstar is riding high on the success of her new album, UP!, which debuted at #1 on the album charts and was the highest selling album of 2002 according to Nielsen Soundscan. The album has had unprecedented sales in Canada, achieving a million copies in only nine weeks. UP! is Twain’s first offering since her record-breaking 1997 album, Come On Over, which sold over 34 million copies worldwide and is the biggest selling album ever by a female artist.
"I can't wait!" said Shania of the announcement. “It's going to be a lot of fun and it will be great to come back home."
“We are delighted to have Shania Twain host the 2003 JUNO Awards,” said Ross Reynolds, Chairman of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), producers of the awards. “She is a spectacular talent, a wonderful person and an outstanding ambassador for Canadian music.”
“She’s on top of the musical world and a cornerstone of what we intend to be another memorable broadcast for Canadians everywhere,” said Susanne Boyce, CTV President of Programming and Chair of the Media Group. “We’re thrilled with today’s announcement.”
It’s the second year for the JUNOS on CTV. Last year, 1.4 million Canadians tuned in to the network’s inaugural broadcast from St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. There, hosts Barenaked Ladies took the province by storm along with a memorable array of performers including, Alanis Morissette, Amanda Marshall, Diana Krall, Great Big Sea, Nelly Furtado, Nickelback, Sum 41 and Shaggy.
Once again, the broadcast of the 2003 JUNO Awards will be augmented by a comprehensive marketing, promotions and public relations campaign. Full details of the campaign will be announced in February.
CTV's presentation of the 2003 JUNO Awards is made possible through the network's BCE-CTV Benefits Package. The broadcast rights to the 2003
JUNO Awards, Canada’s premiere music awards show, were acquired by CTV in August 2001. The telecast will be produced by Toronto’s Insight Productions in association with CTV. John Brunton is Executive Producer.
Nominees will be announced at a press conference in mid-February. Stay tuned for more details.

LOL!! Okay Warrior, what do you charge to stand in line? At my age there is no way I'm lining up overnight on the sidewalk in the winter. It was -22 last night and could be just as cold or colder the night of Feb. 7 too. This is your chance to find out what real Shania cold is, Warrior!
