Remember to watch CMT at 7pm for the red carpet.....

Here are Spock's predictions for tonight.... (I was off by 3 awards last year)...my picks are in bold

38th Awards Nominees

Entertainer of the Year
Brooks & Dunn
Kenny Chesney
Alan Jackson
Toby Keith
Tim McGraw

*CMA Favorite artist

FEMALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR
Terri Clark
Sara Evans
Alison Krauss
Martina McBride
Reba McEntire

* I really don't want Clark to win. It would not be right for her to be the first Canadian to win that award. Plus Martina is a CMA favorite.

MALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR
Kenny Chesney
Alan Jackson
Toby Keith
George Strait
Keith Urban

*because of all the press around his GH release

HORIZON AWARD

Big & Rich
Julie Roberts
Josh Turner
Gretchen Wilson

*Big and Rich are not mainstream country, and Gretchen she is a woman.

VOCAL GROUP OF THE YEAR
Alabama
Diamond Rio
Lonestar
Rascal Flatts
Trick Pony

*They will give it to them since this will probably be their last CMA.

VOCAL DUO OF THE YEAR
Big & Rich
Blue County
Brooks & Dunn
Montgomery Gentry
The Warren Brothers

*They always win, and Brooks is the CMA president.

Good predictions, Chris. I have to say I agree with your reasonings, how unfortunate some may be (i.e. giving Toby one award w/out giving him EOTY). What I don't understand is how the CMAs can snub some of country's most popular artists that the industry depends on. Maybe they're just angry that Toby & Shania got famous without them. You know what comes to my mind right now? Talkalot's uncensored signature awhile back...the mastercard-like one of giving Nashville a certain something without raising a hand. LOL!!

A HYPER Shania fan,
Desiree

EOTY: Kenny, in an upset.

Female: Reba. Martina winning is getting old. Reba hasn't won since the 80's and has made a comeback on the charts this year. Who won't want to see that moment?

Vocal event: Jimmy Buffet and company. They're performing it. Always a tip-off.

Song: Live Like You Were Dying.

Horizon. Gretchen Wilson in a mortal lock. No way she walks away empty-handed. She is their new darling. The anti-Shania.

I think if Gretchen wins anything it will be an "upset".

Reba paid for that comeback unfortunately thanks to her label. I was up in the air about the Jimmy Buffet thing, you might be right about it winning. Gretchen winning, I am still on the fence with it, because it would also acknowledge the "power of the muzik mafia" on the row, and we all know how Music Row does not like anyone who has power.

I would like to see Sara get something, since it would be a new winner at the CMA.

Forget what the people want, CMA's are never about that. I am looking at it on the Music Row political angle. If Gretchen wins, it also acknowledges the Muzik Mafia.

See my previous post.

I don't think Kenny will be an upset, he had a big year and he is liked by CMA's more than Toby.

I agree Gretchen will not go home empty handed, if she does that will be a shock. Afterall they have to show Shania they accept her in Nashville, right?

I also predict standing ovations for most of the performers, except Shania & BIlly

Tim McGraw winning.....hmmm, it could happen since he is opening the show. I may have to re-evaluate some of my picks.

Well, you know Tim will get one, since Faith will be in the audience doing that fist pumping thing she does every year. Faith will get one, since Tim will just stand up, and everyone will follow his lead.

Alan, yep.

Shania and Billy....everyone will secretly like the big showy number but they won't acknowledge it.

Funny, isn't it when on the red carpet they ask other artists who they want to see perform, and 95% of them say Shania. Yet when it comes time to applaud, they sit there.

Toby Keith has naught but respect for Shania and what she has had to put up with from music row...I am sure Toby realizes what Shania is swimming against and just like Shania doesn't care about awards that much because they both by now realize it is their fans that matter...Shania and Toby have both won so many awards that they no longer consider them important...Shania and Toby, they are both what you would call ten year veterans of Country music....

Benjamin,

I didn't meant o lead any confusion with my original post. I guess the rolling eyes smiley, must have conveyed a different meaning than I was intending. I know that Toby is supportive and respects Shania, I did not mean to come off as sarcastic or against Toby in any regards....with that said, I agree with everything in the above post.
