Wow! This is great! For once they are not ignoring Shania or her accomplishments. I have always felt so frustrated where the Country Industry is concerned. Time after time lesser accomplished artists win things when in my heart I know Shania deserved it. So, yeah "this is pretty freaking awesomesauce" and I agree " I couldn't be more excited for her"! Maybe new music is getting closer. Congrats Shania on receiving such an honor!

I couldn't agree more with all of you. Shania has deserved this for so long. Steve, I agree that the country industry has turned their back on her several times. This is a huge honor.

Hopefully this means new music is on the horizon. Plus, why would she sign with new management if something weren't in the works? She went years without management during her hiatus, so I think it's safe to assume 2016 was used as a "recording" and "breather from the road/publicity" type of year, but I think if this recognition speaks any volume...she is certainly not done.

What were the past awards winners for this award? I keep Googling it, Kenny Rodgers got it but who else got this award before Shania? Now they could of given it too Dolly, Reba, Loretta, Tammy, Trisha, Martina or Faith but I am still in "awe" about this.

It's a new award so I think Shania may be the second or

According to the story from CMT, Artist of a Lifetime at CMT Artists of the Year is a new award. The only prior recipients are ‪Kenny Rogers and ‪Merle Haggard, who were awarded in 2015 and 2014 respectively.

Shania Twain will be the first female to receive the prestigious “Artist of a Lifetime” award at the 2016 CMT Artists of the Year event, PEOPLE announces exclusively.

I was talking with a radio friend and he couldn't tell me much, but while discussing Shania he said: "2017 will be much less quiet." I am not sure what that entails, but it's exciting.

I agree about the tribute performers. I get that Shania has always blended genres and so has CMT when it comes to shows like their annual CMT Awards. However, this is to honor country music. I would've hoped it could've been more talent within the actual genre.
