I know we are all swooning right now with the anticipated return of Shania, but there was something on the front page of my local newspaper today that made me smile. I live in Randolph, ME and my elderly dad lives in Gardiner. I make several trips to his home to care for him during the week. The Gardiner Family that settled our town in the early 1700's have a lot of property along the Kennebec River which both Randolph and Gardiner share. They have what looks like a castle mansion that has a beautiful view of the River. On the property, a pair of Eagles have lived and nested there for many years. Around this time of the year, they sit almost into downtown Gardiner in a big Maple tree up on a hill and watch for fish. I saw them together yesterday, and so I'm guessing the photographer took this right around the time I saw them. They are elegant birds. You can't tell from the picture, but the female is a little smaller and is on the bottom.

DOUBLE TAKE: A pair of Bald Eagles perch atop a maple tree Sunday along the Kennebec River in Gardiner. The raptors are commonly encountered roosting along the river during the winter searching for smelt.
