Well Steve I'm sure you've learned over the years how easy it is to get comfortable in our own life and perhaps not pay as much attention to the world in general as we should-I know I have. Spending a few minutes browsing at the Second Harvest web site can quickly bring you to the realization that we all need to do a better job at helping others. Starting this running club and it's fund raising purpose is just my way of trying to do better. The first race and the $4000 it generated for the cause was a good start but I hope that the effort and the club will grow with time. I think the underlying concept of doing something that is healthy for your heart via exercise and healthy for your soul via doing it for such a fine cause as Second Harvest is a good one. As far as satisfaction-I don't think so. I'm far from satisfied yet-I've got miles to go before I get there. Driven possibly-satisfied-definately not yet. Oh, and I really don't want you to be proud of me as I'm not real proud that it took me so long to get this started-but it's started now. What I would love though is you guys getting involved and help me run (or walk) down the hunger in this country. Anyway, thanks for your thoughts though Steve. DOC

I've started the fundraising effort for the upcoming 2006 Marine Corps Marathon in October. I will be accepting donations as noted in my local area and I have also decided to open it UP! to Shania's friends (and of course my friends!) on the boards so I am posting this for that purpose. I will be running in “The 2006 Marine Corps Marathon” in Washington, DC on Oct 29th representing the “Miles For Meals” running club in its effort to raise money for America’s Second Harvest Program and a program called “Kids Café”. “Kids Café” is a charity organization that fights childhood hunger in America. In support of my effort at the “Country Music Marathon” in April we raised $4000.00 to benefit Kid’s Café! Thank You! If you have an interest in donating money toward this run and in support of the “Kids Café” program please let either me know and I’d be happy to accept that contribution and provide you with a receipt for the tax deductible donation that will be used in its entirety to fight childhood hunger. Miles for Meals has collected over $600.00 so far for the Marine Corps Marathon effort and we still have 1 1/2 months to go. I doubt we'll beat the $4000.00 collected for the Country Music Marathon but we'll see. DOC

Over $1000 raised to this point with a little over 1 month to go and requests for corporate donations were just sent out Friday. I'll be running in the Johnstown Marathon this coming weekend (Sunday) representing the Miles for Meals effort there but for PR reasons only to raise interest and support for the Marine Corps Marathon run on Oct 29th. Thanks guys but I hope you know I post this stuff not for praise but in an effort to get others interested in the Miles for Meals program and in the cause it supports. Right now Kraft Corp will match any donations UP! to $400,000 dollar for dollar so I'm gona send the donations in weekly as I get them to take advantage of their kindness and charity. Anyway, I'm still lookin' for running partners and I definately want to see the Miles for Meals program grow in it's support of Second Harvest! DOC

Miles for Meals UP! date for Marine Corps Marathon event
At $2000.00 now. I did the Johnstown Marathon last week end for training purposes (tough run!) and the Marine Corps Marathon is on the 29th of this month. I'm headin' out west to Gunnisson Colorado tomorrow for 10 days of fishing for trout, hunting for elk, and training for the run at 9-12,000 ft altitude. Lots of Shania music and the Rocky Mountains should get me in the right frame of mind for the Marine Corps run EH? LOL. Some pretty cool news this week-as I belong to the American Athletic Medical Society I will be running in the Boston Marathon in April-something I've always wanted to do! I'd love to have some new Shania music to help me train for that one! DOC
