The Odd Ways Of Music City

Twenty-four years worth of up close watching of Nashville…In many ways I think I understand why things are done and then sometimes I don’t have a clue.
This has been one of those head scratching weeks:

#1. If you were going to put the deserving legend Ray Charles in the Country Music Hall of Fame why would you not do it now? Timeliness is a tenant of show business. It would make news for the Hall of Fame and it’s the right thing to do. Why just 2 people? It makes little sense.

#2. The snubbing of Shania: Again no nominations and if the CMA voters don’t think she has one of the top five shows of the year then fine. It’s their view. But, what a major hypocrisy, if in the same breath you announce she is the first performer invited to perform. The Music Row bosses and voters will use Shania to get a show rating but will not show her the respect of even a nomination. In the words of the Riders in the Sky, It’s not the cowboy way!

What he stated most of us have known for years. Shania is not one of thier "Chosen ones" unless they need ratings. It all makes me wanna throw-up sometimes.

Exactly!!!!! Everyone knows the fans have just about defended Shania in every possible way. But it's not like we matter to stupid Bashville anyway, except when it comes to ratings. They know we'll tune in even if Shania is on for just a few seconds. It *would* be nice if whoever won the female vocalist or album of the year or whatever would say something about Shania. That's like...what award show was it in 96..ACM's?...where Shania was winning everything and when Brooks & Dunn won for best duo they said, "Thanks to Shania Twain for not being nominated in our category." I'll never forget that!!!

I go back a long way with Jimmy Carter. He used to do the movie reviews on Crook & Chase. He's a funny guy who "gets it" as Spock would say!

I was disappointed that my dad and his youngest sister did not speak to each other for over 20 years due to some trivial little thing that neither seems to be able to clearly recall now. It wasn't until dad finally came to the conclusion that it wasn't what he had leaned in church. He decided to turn the other cheek and contact her. It makes me very happy that the two of them now are speaking again like a bother and sister should. Why did I bring this up? It is because at some point, maybe Nasville will speak to Shania too! Or maybe the ignorance will continue.
