Hi all,
I was going to bed at midnight and lucky me I turned on the radio and got the after midnight show. First off, how she can be on radio in the middle of the night when she has to get up and do more publicity in the morning is just tooo amazing. How does she do it? She really does not have to but she does.
The interview went from 12-2am. They also played other people's songs besides Shania's, so we had to hang in there and listen. Blair talked about losing his parents like Shania. She said she saw her mom's photo when her mom was about 10 years old and saw that resemblence in Eja. Mutt saw the resemblence too.
Talked about the Huckabee movie. Blair liked it and asked if she wanted to take up acting. She said she did not have plans for it.
He asked if she was going to see the TV movie about her and she said she was curious and she would.
First new song they played was "don't" which she explained was made for the new Morgan Freeman movie. She wanted to keep it positive.Not giving up and forgiveness.
They played at least 6 old songs, don't and party for two. Blair said the whole album was upbeat and left him feeling good.
So except for the mark device thing at the very end and some of the other people's songs that I did not like, it was not too bad an interview.

Thanks for the transcript imonmywayup!!! I'm disappointed to say that I fell asleep right after she said "Yeah, sure" so I missed the part about Mark McGrath! Last night my new roomie redeemed herself for daring to touch the TV while I was recording the Shania marathon on CMT Friday night. LOL She actually called After Midnite for me (we were calling at the same time) & asked when they were going to air the Shania interview. We didn't get through until 1 a.m. & Telephone Tim said she wouldn't be on til 3 a.m. my time so I tried to go to bed. I didn't end up falling asleep until 2 a.m. & I was back up at 2:50. I stayed up until 4:30 & then I accidentally fell back asleep. Dang! It was *so* hard waking up at 8 a.m. for class this morning, but I'm glad I got to record most of the interview! I told that to my boss today & she said I have corrupted my roomie & there is no hope for her. LOL!

Shania: Yeah, thats with Billy Currington, duet, and also..umm..there's a ballad, it's called "Dont!", that is for a film thats coming out with...urr...Morgan Freeman, Robert Redford and Jennifer Lopez and that's a Miramax film, it's called "An Unfinished Life"

Shania: ...yeah, it's a beautiful movie and the song basically reflects all of the emotions throughout that movie that are ya know, fighting, arguing, love, forgiveness...it's pretty powerful

Blair: Pretty much all mine are...but ya know i'm totally into cars, i've always wondered what kind of car Shania Twain drives around, ya know your toolin' around, what do you like?

Shania: I drive a little roadster, it's err....yeah a little roadster, kind of a malty brown colour like malt colour, browm errm...

Blair: Now I gotta ask ya what kind of Roadster, is it like a Bentley or a...

Shania: OH, it's a err...umm....BMW

Shania: Yeah,....I don't know cars very well, I was gonna say Porche

Shania: It's not a Porche though, I don't know cars very well, i'm not into them but i'm sure you would find it quite interesting

Blair: I am sooo into cars! very good, very good, i'm sure you look quite stylish touring around in it! ya know, we've been talking about how you've been able to rack up a huge number of hits in a comparatively short while, i'll guess that your success is well beyond what you ever may have dreamed possiable

Shania: oh, of course, yes very much so!

Blair: and when you look back and realise the odds that are agenst ANY new artist hitting it as big as you have, are you kind of taking it back?

Shania: Yes, sometimes I can't believe it, it's really been an amazing career to this point and its umm...it's urr..it's indescribable really and overwhelming and the Greatest Hits album really does signify, it encompasses, it sort of just makes me rewind really quickly through all of the years and the music and the touring, the shows, the fans...it's like a quick big flashback I guess you could say, and it's a neat feeling!

Blair: If you had to single it down to 1 element, what would you say is probably most resposiable for the success you've enjoyed?

Shania: emmm.....songs! without hit songs, you cannot have a successful career

Blair: no doubt

Shania: No matter what, no matter how much money is behind you, no matter how great your record company is, no matter who your management is, no matter what you look like, if you do not have hit songs you will not be....successful!

Blair: And ya know, you're this multi talented force to deal with because you write hit songs, I mean you write better for yourself then anyone else could

Shania: well I know myself better then probably anyone else does....err...probably besides Mutt, anyway so we make a good team there considering that my co-writer is my husband, so...Yeah I think it's pretty easy to write songs suited to myself, thats for sure.

Blair: Can that lead to some interesting colaberations, I mean it'll be 2 in the morning and you can't fall asleep and your nudgeing, your like "Mutt I just had an idea for a song!"

Shania: It DOES happen yes of course

Blair: really

Shania: Yeah...or ya know, he'll have an idea and I might ya know,...I dunno, maybe I was in the middle of changing a diper or something...heh, it's quite interesting when you live with your co-writer, co creater, so erm...yeah

Blair: Now you mentioned seconds ago, changing dipers...we have to ask how your son Eja is doing?

Shania: oh he's doing great, he's doing really good, he loves music and he's travelled around the world with us on the tour and...doing real good!

Blair: How old's Eja now?

Shania: 3

Blair: Wow, it's hard to believe how fast they grow isn't it!

Shania: Yep, it goes pretty fast

Blair: Ya know, one of the thing that you and I share is the loss of our parents and in becoming a first time farther here recently this last year, I think that loss which never goes away from you...is kind of softened by being able to look into your child's eyes and see part of your parents looking back. Have you found that experience to be true?

Shania: haha, absolutely it's...it's really nice. I was pulling out some old pictures a couple of days ago and there was one of my mum when she was....probably 10 or something, she was a child, and I could see Eja in her!...or her in Eja, ya know...yeah I could see that and I went "Wow" I said to Mutt, I said "Can you see Eja in this picture?" and he could ya know, so clear, so....yeah thats nice.

Blair: Sometimes too, have you ever noticed body movements, just the way that they move..sometimes..

Shania: sure!

Blair: It's just amazing, I think....I'm facinated by that but..

Shania: Yeah it's true



Blair: This is a very busy time for you isn't it

Shania: sure is, umm...a lot has gone into making this record, i'm gonna be obviously out and about and...getting ya know, i've got some presenting and stuff to do on the CMA's, and...lots of stuff to do and lots of stuff planned and..

Blair: And, did you hear about this story that was on you?

Shania: nuhuh

Blair: *laughs* now i'd never heard this...

Shania: Tell meeee!

Blair: They said that there was a roumor going around that Shania Twain.....had a wooden foot!

Shania: ahahahahaha

Blair: What do you think is the publics biggest misconception about Shania Twain?

Shania:......I'm not suure if they have any big miscnceptions, I think they pretty much know me pretty well....umm....err..ya know yeah, I don't think there is any huge ones, theres nothing like

Blair: There ya go, now you have a part in a movie, which I think is arguably one of this years best, it's called "I Heart Huckabees" and it stars Lilly Tomlen, Jude Law and Dustin Hoffman and I think it is fair to say that your involvement is pivitable in this movie miss Twain

Shania: well....it's gonna be funny and erm, i'm gonna see what people have to say about it, i'm slapping Jude Law around a little bit so..

Blair: hahaha, so in the movie you headline a fundraiser to help save a marsh

Shania: right, because ya know, Jude Law is this ruthless business guy who's out to profit...and so I'm in the move, well just my likeness is and they just asked me if I could come in for a day and be there for a second...errm, so i'm probably in the move for like a whole second aha and urm, but it was fun

Shania: Well, first of all it's not like I had to go for like 3 months to shoot it, I only had to go for a day, and also Jude Law himself ya know, personally wrote me a letter

Shania: asking me to come out to do it, yeah and I thought that was so nice so, ya know, that was just genuine and I really appreciated it so...so there I was, I showed up and had a wonderful day

Blair: so what do you think, are there going to be any more acting gigsin the Shania Twain future?

Shania: ....I dunno, err....it's not something that I aspire to be...acting's not really one of my passions, but maybe I would do it for fun at some point, I don't know, I never really gave it a lot of serious thought because i have never had those 3 or 4 months to spare that it takes to make a movie...ya know for the actor usually, and a lot of times it is more but i guess typically it is about 3 or 4 months of any one persons time as an actor and it's like wow ive never had that time to spare, i've always been on tour or making records or writing music

Blair: I understand there's a made for TV movie in the works on the life of Shania Twain, are you at all involved on that project?

Shania: Not at all, I know about it but..

Blair: do you think you will watch it when it comes out?

Shania: Oh yeah, out of curiosity, i'll get my popcorn out

Blair: you'll be like "that is SO MADE UP!"

Shania: I don't know how many we were able to fit on there, we fit as many as we could...urm...for now and err...obviously we couldn't get all of our singles on there so i'm not really sure how they are ranked as far as ya know....the stats

Blair: right, right, but what I think is really cool about it is the overall feel of the album, I mean this is just a good...it's a bright album...if that makes sense to you

Shania: well, we...wanted every, I mean every song needs to be strong on a greatest hits album, when people listen to it they gotta sit back, reflect and go "Wow, I haven't heard that in a while!"

Blair: For me the overall feeling is...just, you leave feeling good, I mean it's a collection of songs that make you feel good

Shania: oh well thats great to hear....thats good, thank you!

Blair: ok, ya know, the only person I have ever known that could make the guys in Emeson Drive giggle like school girls is Shania Twain, just the mention of your name alone! They had so much fun o tour with you

Shania: That is great, they are just a great bunch of guys and I mean really talented and got the audience going, they sing beautifully live especially and but most of all, a good group of people!

Blair: They like to have fun, they're jokesters, did they play any jokes on you?

Shania: No, they didn't....they're probably too scared too, hahaha

Shania: because these fans are here, they pay, so you cannot pull a practical joke on me onstage because everyones watching and ya know, i'm protected by the fact that...I can't goof up or...you know, whatever so i'm kinda protected that way, but they manage to do a few things to me but...

Shania: well err Billy was through Luke Lewis because he's on the same label, Luke Lewis is the head of our label, and he said hey you gotta listen to this guys voice for the duet and...sure enough it was perfect ya know, very rich sotheren sexy voice, erm...and just the contrast was really good with mine, especially with the whole..the music...it's very country!

Blair: uh huh

Shania: and then with Mark, my management came up with him and thought he would be really suited and he is, he's....it just rocks!

Blair: the quality of his voice is kinda like this gravelish, kenny rogers'ish thing goin' on
