Negative attitude disappointing for former resident
I AM WRITING in response to Walter Kienapple's letter to the editor of The Daily Press headlined "Financial losses leave sour taste for taxpayer."
I think the only thing sour about the situation is Mr. Kienapple's negative attitude about the Shania Twain Centre and the Underground Gold Mine Tour.
It is this kind of pessimistic thinking that will continue to undermine the positive promotion of this great city to the rest of Canada and the world.
These projects are visionary and forward thinking — two things that Mr. Kienapple is not.
I get really tired of his kind of backwards thinking.
I believe the people who have made considerable sacrifices to see these projects come to light, deserve more appreciation for their efforts than mumblings about snow and garbage removal.
Tourist attractions need time to grow and attract visitors.
Wherever I travel, the people I meet instantly associate Timmins with Shania Twain and they are very interested to learn more about the city in which she was raised.
I think the Shania Twain Centre is an excellent vehicle for raising the profile of our city.
There has been an exceptional response to the centre thus far, and I am confident that it will only get better.
I had the privilege of living in Timmins for 24 years and still visit often.
I have since lived in metropolitan cities across Canada, but I have only felt at home when I return to Timmins.
The city continues to transform itself into an exciting recreational and tourist-friendly centre while never losing its small town hospitality.
Perhaps Mr. Kienapple and others who share his negative opinions, should concentrate on the positive promotion of the city instead of spending their free time debasing the efforts of others.
