Ka-Ching - some great reviews from UK!
Shania Gets Bhangra Makeover
If you thought Shania Twain was just about happy-go-lucky tunes and MOR production, wait until you hear her new single, Ka-Ching.
Not only is the radio version of her tune an astonishing shift in direction (kind of baroque, kind of R&B), one of her CDs features a floor-burning bhangra mix of the track, which has fooled many a junglist in clubs across the country - until of course Shania's distinctive vocals appear. Remixed by Simon & Diamond the tune has become a familiar sound on turntables across Europe and the UK and has introduced Shania to a whole new audience who may not listen to her shiny brand of country.
Ka-Ching can also be found in its original form on Shania's mega-selling album, Up!

SHANIA TWAIN 'KA-CHING'
If there's one thing you can say about Shania Twain, she's a bit of a one when it comes to song titles. Just check out her latest album, Up, and you'll see that she's a bit of a wacky one: Waiter! Bring Me Water! I'm Not In The Mood (To Say No)! and In My Car (I'll Be The Driver). What is this woman on, for goodness sake?
Well, her new single, Ka-Ching is no different. But while it may have a ludicrously silly title, the tune is in fact a tongue-in-cheek comment on consumerism and globalisation - ha, says the multi-millionairess.
What stops this superb track from falling into the novelty record trap (though it does open with the sound of cash registers a la Are You Being Served? and rhyme about a hundred words with Ka-Ching in the chorus) is the strength of the melody and impressive production. With a dramatic string opening, the tune has a very baroque-influenced sound which makes this one of Shania's most accomplished and stylish efforts so far.
Because of this shift in musical direction (she says goodbye to her trademark middle-of-the-road country rock sound) Ka-Ching should pull in a lot more people than just her huge fanbase, if they can forgive her for the title.

Ka-Ching is one of the "meaty" tracks on the new album. The strength of its melody and the relevance of its lyrics guarantee long-lived success. It is beyond me why Shania released the single "Up!" which is, as could be expected, not doing that well when she has so many blockbusters like Ka-Ching to draw from. Shania did not get where she is by playing it safe. She needs to find her courage and release the more experimental stuff over here in North America.

I don't think courage has anything to do with it. What is the use of releasing a single radio will not touch. Look at what happened to Celine Dion's "Goodbye" single...AC never touched it.

Obviously we live in different countries. AC radio plays the Goodbye song here. And AC, pop and country radio will play anything Shania puts out. If she sang her grocery list, I'm sure radio here would play it...LOL!
Seriously, I think Ka-Ching is just so good, popular demand would force US radio to play it. Maybe Shania wanted to establish it as a hit in Europe first to influence US radio to play it.

One thing in the USA, radio is not brave, the corporations have ground it down.

I think scotty and Tower represent Scottish Shania fans too.. ...and they have a slightly different opinion of the single.. That was not the first AD I saw regarding the possible success of Shania's singles....it happened before..and look where COO is now..
