June 29-July 2, 2001

July 2nd, 2001-Gold Mine Tour! Great Day today! We had a fantastic tour of the Gold Mine, went down into the earth! LOL Very cold, but really fascinating! We wore boots and helmets, saw the original tunnels, and check out the machinery. We then  headed to Tim Horton's! Really good food! :) In the afternoon, we had a second tour of the Shania Twain Centre! We have taken a group picture of the Fan Club members right in front of the Shania Twain Centre sign! Warrior wants to establish a record of number of times a fan has watched the Shania Video in there! LOL :) Check out the photos on the messageboard! We are now at the end of our great Timmins adventure, but I am sure we will be back here to catch up with Shania in the future! :)

July 1st, 2001-Canada DAY! Today it was Canada Day! unfortunately, it was also incredibly cold up here!! Temperature during the day: 38F!!!!!! No one here has ever seen this weather before on July 1: very cold and rainy..:( But we had a GREAT TIME anyways! LOL..:) We had a tour of the city, have seen all the Shania-related spots: the Maple Leaf Hotel where she used to perform, the Shania Garden, her High School! :) After lunch inside (where it was warm), we had a brainstorming meeting among the Fan Club members who were here in Timmins. Among the proposals made, we talked about a strategy on how to be able to buy better concert seats, an annual Fan Club trip, and many more ideas..:) The webmasters of the Fan Club site will be discussing all the suggestions made! :) By the way, we got a videotape of the Fan Club members on the 6 pm News! Stay tuned! :) LOL

June 30, 2001-Shania Twain Centre Open! Today finally the Shania Twain Centre has opened with an official ceremony at 11 am.The Mayor of Timmins, in addition to local politicians, was present and gave a speech to thank Shania and the idea for the Centre. The Fan Club got to present the frames of the Star Certificate and the Timmins AD to the Centre on stage (see photos posted on the board!). Then we were allowed in and while we were waiting for the first tour of the Centre, we did some shopping at the Centre's store. Once we got in, we saw memorabilia of Shania from the first period in her career, we saw two of her guitars, four outfits (the CMA and the Grammys ones..), many of the awards (Junos, ACMs, Grammys)...There is a wall in the centre they call the backstage area, where fans can leave a message to Shania, right before they enter the theater...Here you will experience a 12 minute video of Shania LIVE, from her career most important moments: you feel like you are at a Shania concert first row! The sound system is GREAT! 
After the tour, most of the Fan Club members were interviewed by radio or TV stations, lots of journalists around..:) The celebrations continued in the evening with the Fan Club party! After seeing the Shania Twain Suite we moved to one of the Hotel Conference rooms: lots of food, Shania music and lots of prizes for all! (see pics posted soon on the messageboard!) Doc played, Warrior and Joni sang, Wing took lots of pictures as usual! Not to mention Shania Twin! She showed up! You'll see her in the photos!

June 29, 2001-First Day of Fun and Excitement! This first day in Timmins was simply GREAT! and I cannot believe that tomorrow on June 30 it will be even better! :) We started by taking pictures of all of us underneath the Shania Twain Way on the West bound of 101, a great experience, finally we could see the sign ourselves! :) See photos posted on the messageboard very soon! :) 
The day continued with a really incredible visit to Timmins TV station where our host Corinna was GREAT! We got to see a never-seen before documentary of Shania titled "Shania comes Home," a gem! :) We received lots of goodies from the TV station and the city of Timmins too because at the TV Station we met the mayor as well. :) 
At the Radio Station we got a visit of the building and we got more info about Shania's musical taste. At the end each of us got to take a pic holding a guitar signed by Shania! :)
We then went off to the parking lot right outside the Centre main entrance where we took a photo with Corrina and we went on the air on the 6 pm News! (See photos on the board) Will Saari, The Centre Manager, and FV were interviewed by Corrina of the TV Station! :) Then, four Fan Club members: Arlene (byrdman's wife), Bryce, Doc and Tory (one of Doc's daughters) got to do the weather forecast with Corrina on the air, and they ended the News with them shouting: "Timmins rocks, Shania RULES!" :) :) :)
We ended our day with a dinner at Fionn MacCools: a great Irish restaurant and Pub! We highly recomend it for anybody coming to Timmins! :) 
Tomorrow June 30th is a real big day...there is a rumor going on that Shania might be here! no official statement..We'll let you know what happens then. In any case, it will be great!!!!!!!! :) Stay tuned Super Shania Fans for more updates from Timmins!!!!!!!!

June 28, 2001-We are in Timmins! FIRST NEWS UPDATE.
First of All I would like to congratulate Matt ($500) and moosetrax ($385), the two winners of the tshirts signed by Shania we auctioned at the Fan Club! A HUGE Thanks to them for supporting our effort to help Breakfast For Learning! Another HUGE Thanks to Paul and Brigitte Kolb for donating the tshirts!
Now to the summary of the events in Timmins...
Most of us have finally met today for the first time, but you are gonna have to wait till tomorrow to see some of the photos..:) We all walked downtown and saw Shania's prints and the plaque dedicated to her! :) It was much colder than usual...We had dinner at the Lucky Star, a Canadian/Chinese place, we basically took over the restaurant! LOL Warrior had Rootbeer!!!!!
The Centre looks really GREAT! In the afternoon, Cbspock, Joni and I went to drop off the frames and got a chance to get a sneak preview of the building! Here is a short preview of what you will be able to see at the Shania Twain Centre:   - in the lobby as you get in from the square outside the centre there is the merchadise store on the right, together with a small cafe, and on the left the hall of fans, where memorabilia and donations from Shania Fan Clubs will be showed! Including, of course, the Star Certificate and the Timmins AD! :)  -the next hall is the Hall of Inspiration: Shania's memorabilia from when she was singing with LongShot and when she was in school..:) all the walls at the centre are made of a special granite, with small pieces of gold, since the Centre is right next to the GoldMine..:)  - the new hall is the music exhibit: fans will be allowed to play a drum kit and use the mixer..there will be a Shania guitar!  -- Lots of outfits, from the wedding dress to the Grammys' night one..  - A backstage area where fans can write messages to Shania on a wall!  - a theater, whose screen and lighting system is controlled by a computer: there will be a 12 minute video experience of Shania's perfomances! A MUST FOR EVERY FAN! Come here to Timmins simply to watch this video!!!!!  - Lots of personal stuff from Shania, including her voice taped for the Centre's experience..:)  Everything is ready, just need to clean up a bit..We even got our picture taken by a photographer of the Timmins Daily Press, so be sure to check the Timmins Daily Press website in the next days for an article on our Fan Club members' visit to Timmins! The city is ready, the Centre is ready, we are READY! Stay tuned for our photo from the Shania Twain Highway Sign! :)
