that is true, but you've got to remember that this is a GH album, so many of the fans who like Shania but already have the songs on the GH album probably won't get the album unless they get it for a very good deal. Also note that Shania was on many major network programs with the release of Up!:

-ABC (Superbowl)
-NBC (Today Show)
-CBS (CMA'S)
-NBC (Dateline w/Katie)

Now with the GH:

-CBS (CMA'S)

I agree this is amazing and to think she is doing this w/o promotion rigt now, just with song & video. Can u imagine if she was promoting....it would be #1 on all genre. I still think it has a chance to go #1 all genre, if she performs "DON't!" on the Grammys!

What do u say Shania????? Don't make us beg you:drool: :D

How small must Music Row feel that a GH CD has been beating brand new albums that they have been pushing out...lol

Funny how there are no stories about Shania beating the Music Row Doll, in a 7 week period of time. We get a "Grid lock" story. "How dare Shania lock up the charts"

lol...I can't believe Shania has been on top for 10 weeks...however, it looks like Kenny Chesney will disrupt that 'grid-lock.' Kenny's last album "When the Sun Goes Down" opened with sales of 550,581 around 1 year ago. Leann Rimes will also be some competition. However, after about a month the 'newness' factor will ware off and Shania could take the #1 spot back as "Don't" climbs higher on the charts.

The GH has stayed #1 longer than UP, go figure, with 10 weeks, UP only racked up 6 weeks

I am expecting the charts in 2 weeks to be:

LeAnn
Kenny
Shania

I agree that with a strong single, which I think D! is, the album will remain high. Too bad that 2 million won't count for 2005, or this album could very well end up #1 album of 05.

I think Leann may have a tougher time than Kenny. I think his album will outsell hers.

-Chris Have u heard Kenny's album, IMO it is not great....did he write this stuff? The entire album sounds basically the same....mostly same old ballads! I only heard one good song on that album, which was guitars tiki bars. However another song that might do good for him is Key Lime Pie & it will probably just do good cuz of its cheeziness, just like "She thinks my tractors sexy" did.

As for Leannes album, wow it really is good! It has 12 tracks and half of them are potential to be country radio airplay winners. I still don't care for her voice as it seems like she is always over stressing it ala Jessica simpson....but I think this album will do better than Kenny Chesneys.

I didn't listen to any of the other albums besides those 2 since they will probably be the ones to compete & dethrone Shania. I still think with promotion on the Grammy's that Shania can get back that #1 and stay there....time will tell:)

I don't like that Blue Chair song much, that's for sure!! I think Leann's material is better but Kenny will most likely make #1, but idk just a hunch.

Yeah, Kenny wrote it. I just think he has more star power right now than Leann, and that will give him the edge. It would be awesome if Shania held the #1 spot though.

I looked at Billboard Charts and I realized that Shania's Greatest Hits, after 10 weeks, is goin' better than her Up! Cd.
In fact, the GH has been (and still IS) in the Top 10 for 9 weeks. This week is at #3.
The album already sold 3.000.000 copies (I don't know if it's a record, but surely almost it is), almost 1.000.000 every month!!
At this time of year, in 2003 Up! wasn't anymore in the Top 10, it was more or less at #15 and sold 2.000.000 copies (I don't know if counted as single or double Cd).
I hope the next, brilliant, great single "Don't!" (that this week debuted at #39) will help to guarantee the fourth diamond album for Shania.

I am thrilled that with no promotion, in its 14th week the GH has improved to 60K. In Up!'s 14th week, with promotion from Shania at the Superbowl and AMA only sold 38K. Way to go Shania!

hmmm....Shania's GH isn't quite on par success wise as Up! was.
Her GH is doing well no doubt, but saleswise, Up! taken off like a rocket to begin with.

Shania's GH sales so far are: 2,614,980 (not including last or this weeks)
Up!'s sales after the same amout of weeks released were in the 3.5 Million range.
Chart position doesn't really mean anything, it is basically just luck and timing and depends on what new releases and how many new releases you are up against each week.

Overall, I think that Shania's GH will sell quite steadily until Don't starts getting decent airplay and hopefully Shania will perform Don't! at an upcoming award show which will give her a good spike in sales.

Remember, Shania's GH will be a huge cataloge seller....every time she releases a new album people will be drawn to her GH too, same with when they see Shania on TV seeing how Greatest Hits albums are usually the "safe choice" album to buy when you are first getting into an artists music.

I definately think that Up! sold more in the begginning. Up! rocketed to success. I'm just saying that Shania's GH seems to be leveling out better. If you compare the 14th week of Up!'s sales with the 14th week of the GH sales it seems sort of odd that Up! went down to 38,000 after an 87,000 booster when Shania was doing so much promotion when hardly any is being done for the GH.

Basically, I am just saying, that in the long run the GH will surpass Up! in sales. Its just my opinion. You have to remember, after Up! left the top 20...it never really regained momentum except once after Shania's Live In Chicago Special almost a year after its release. And even then in only jumped to No. 19 on the charts.

From what I could dig up: Up!'s sales history is:

I don't have the remaining numbers. I compiled all of these numbers from the posts on the Shania Boards. The sources from these posts is Soundscan and HDD and Billboard.

Notice how the sales sort of taper off after the 15th week an avg. about 25-30k a week. Hopefully the GH will stay higher than that.

Keep in mind (when comparing weekly statistics) that Up! was released at a later date then the GH....
Although the GH is holding up nicely on it's own, as you said, it hasn't received hardly any promotion for about 2 months and overall it seems to be levelling out quite nicely (I just hope Shania can keep herself in the 40-50K range for a couple more months....)

I think it will eventually surpass Up! in sales too (might take a while though....Up! is still selling, lol)
Up! did suffer a bizzare dip in sales and start to run out of steam despite promotion and hit singles......I still don't understand what happend there....
I think the problem lies with radio....Shania has been struggling to have a hit on pop radio for quite a while (I think her last was FAFA, might be wrong...)

Pop is the largest market so that is probably the one we should focus on the most, look at Usher for example:
The only reason why his confessions is selling so much (other then the pathetic "re-issue" after less then 1 year of release!) is because he is constantly releasing singles that manage to reach #1 on pop radio.
If Don't! could reach the Top 5 on pop then it would do Shania excellent! Don't! has so much potential and it really could be the next YSTO if it was given a chance...
