This question was asked on this weeks Billboard, thought i would post it.......

Q:
One last thing, what is your thought on why Leann Rimes and Faith Hill have had great success "returning" to the country charts after dabbling in pop, but Shania Twain has experienced resistance? Granted, Shania's last album sold a ton, but she did not have much luck on the singles chart.

A:
Shania Twain's last album was a greatest hits collection with four new songs added, and then she had a song on the "Desperate Housewives" soundtrack. I'd prefer to wait for her next studio album to see if she is embraced by country radio before counting her out.

I think a big difference between her situation and Leann and Faith's, is that Shania never left. She has nothing to return FROM. Know what I mean? That's one of the reasons I believe Nashville is irked by her. She's always appealed to a number of audiences, so she's never been in a position where she felt she had to come asking for forgiveness so she could come home. She's always BEEN at home - in country, pop, international and other genres, as well.

I think peope have a lot of mis-conceptions about the importantce of hits and country radio airplay. (and industry shoulder patting)

Granted, sometimes they make you a success story. Sometimes they help you in sales. But most of the time, they are simple tools helping to promote the music, album sales and keep an artist in the "spotlight".

Faith's new album with the radio hits won't do much more than Cry did without massive airplay. And Rimes never was and will be a big seller, hits or not.

On the other hand, Shania's GH still out-sells these radio supported albums easily. With flopped singles, minimum promotion and all.

Both good points Sheri and Jud.

Plus Shania doesn't need Music Row like those two. Shania doesn't use their producers, or songwriters so she doesn't have to kiss any industry tail.

Excuse me Sheri, I must stop drooling. :HA What I mean is you posted a #1 paragraph. I'm still savoring it. :hugs: This is the kind of comments we should be hearing from Hazel Smith or Katy on CMT's Insider when discussing Shania. HEY1

Jud, I am in total agreement with you as well. :)
