I was wondering if any of you might be able to help me out here. My family and I are trying to plan a couple nights stay at the Deerhurst resort on our way back down from Timmins. Does any one have any information about this resort or perhaps been there to let me know as to whether I should plan a two night or three night stay? I will also have my two daughters along, so we are hoping for some family fun activities. I have visited the web site but was wanting some first hand experience.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Tee:

We have been to Deerhurst a couple of times. Let's see what I remember. Well, the first thing I'd recommend is: go see the show! It is fast-paced and professional and lots of fun. I seem to remember we bought a package whereby what we paid covered the cost of the show and some money off (don't remember how much) eating in their fancy Eclipse restaurant (I think that's what it is called). Without that money off you might not choose to eat at that restaurant unless you're a lot richer than we are. BTW there's a cheaper restaurant just a little further along the road if you don't want to get stung by the prices three times a day. Can't remember what it's called. There is a small safe beach for families with small kids (like your second-grader). There is a slight hill sloping down to the water. This is where most adults and older kids go. Grab a seat by 10 in the morning or you'll be out of luck. There are canoes, sailboats, paddle-boats, etc. It is safe for canoeing along the shore for a long distance. What else? Well, the last time we went (last September) it was expanding rapidly. I believe now there is a gym, sauna, that kind of thing. If you golf there are a couple of courses, neither cheap, but one is among the best in Canada. Can't remember if there is tennis because I don't play any more. Oh yes, I forgot, there is an outdoor swimming pool (you can tell we have never gone there with kids!) with lots of tables nearby to sit and drink at (or whatever). Oh, I think they have horseback riding too. You can rent bikes but we tried that and it's not a good idea. First off, rented bikes never fit right but more importantly, it's way too hilly in the area for biking unless you are olympically fit. (We're not). If I think of more, I'll write again. Bottom line: I like it at Deerhurst but it's pricey so we wouldn't stay for more than a few days at a time. Mind you, for Americans it's less pricey. Take two-thirds of the Canadian price and that's what it is in US money.

FV, you're right. My wife and I plan to stay two nights at Deerhurst after we leave Timmins. What better way to top off the Shania Twain experience and historical tour. LOL http://www.shania-twain.org/messages/smile.gif

Tee, we took the Great Escape package. I beleive that this is what Roger is referring to. We get two nights at a special rate, which includes two tickets to Sing (and picture Shania in that show!) and some dollars to spend at the restaurants. They advised making advance reservations for the show and restaurants. Also for certain activities, although we'll probably just do the beach and the pool. The package is also available for a third night.
For others who may be interested, the Web site is: http://www.deerhurst.on.ca/index2.htm

After Derrhurst, we'll visit Toronto for a couple of days before returning home to Maryland.

Thanks for the replys. I have now booked three nights at the Deerhurst, for after we leave Timmins. Sounds like you won't be rid of the Livingston Family after you leave Timmins Byrdman. I am soooo excited!!! http://www.shania-twain.org/messages/smile.gif http://www.shania-twain.org/messages/smile.gif
