Today's edition of the Timmins Daily Press carries a story about the creation of a series of signs in and around Timmins providing directions to the Shania Twain Centre. What's that old saying....All roads lead to Shania. LOL http://www.shania-twain.org/messages/smile.gif

You've never been here.

Timmins is full of streets that start off as one name and go through a whole change of names without you ever making a turn

for example...

Airport Road becomes Jubilee at the first set of lights, and at the third set of lights becomes Ross Avenue East.

Mountjoy becomes MacLean Drive at the intersection of Mountjoy, Maclean,Floral and Seventh.

Don't be afraid to ask for directions, the people here are quite helpful.

Yes, most of us have not been there. Thanks for alerting us to some of the potential road/street sign problems.

When I was there, Eilleen was still in her early teens and of course the Shania Twain Highway sign wasn't there.

I'm working on my own quick reference, easy to read MS Word table of STUSOFC events, with dates, times, locations, references etc. One of the first things on the agenda is a group photo by the big sign. I've seen info about the sign location online & here multiple times over the past months. I know the other members are mostly meeting downtown at the Senator. But there's little parking there, and I'm lodged elsewhere. So it might be easier for me to meet at the sign. But I just spent an hour trying to relocate that info and came up empty. Customized searches of STUSOFC message board forums come back too large or too small. Manual search of topics is a no go. And the links to Timmins, the Centre, etc are all "unable to load file," due to modem access at peak busy time of early evening. Must be an unlucky day. Is it the 13th?

Here is some info regarding the Big Shania Signs that welcome you to Timmins.

There are two of these signs. Both are on Highway 101, one on the east end of town the other on the west. They are easy to spot when entering Timmins. Not so easy when leaving because you see the back of the sign and there are many billboards along this streatch of road. I can't really give you an exact location or a land mark. Its simply a billboard at the side of the road.

Now if my memory serves me neither one of them is five minutes from downtown. I would say to get to either one would take about 20 minutes. Give or take.

We will have to decide which sign to go to and I recommend we organize a car pool to get there. The fewer cars we take the better, since there is no place to park (at either sign)other than the side of the highway and it is a fairly busy road. It sees allot of use by logging trucks.

The signs are also a few yards from the side of the road. To get to them we will have to walk through the ditch and then through what may, by this time of year, be knee high grass & brush. I would recommend people wear long pants and proper foot wear, especially if its been raining that ditch may have some water in it LOL.

Bob, as I just wrote to you by email, you are getting in midday on the Friday. Why not just find your way to the meeting point at the Senator? So long as you are not too late, we could perhaps wait for you if you don't make it at 1:15 sharp. How late might you possibly be?
