Hello to you!

I have watched the "Ka-Ching"-Video and this three legged dog
made me wonder.

Does anyone of you know what this dog stands for.
I think it is quite uncommon to show a dog which has only three
legs in a pop video where normally only beautiful things are
shown.

In Germany, there is a famous joke by Otto Waalkes about a
dog with only three legs.

Has the video got something to do with this joke?

If you know please e-mail me: ralfsan@gmx.de

Thanx and bye.

Welcome anjinsan to the board!HI! I do not think the video is related to that joke...but I would want to ask Shania the meaning of the three legged dog myself...:)

NAH. That three legged dog was not handsome enough to get on a Shania video(actually it was a bit spooky! Wouldn't want to come eye to eye with that thing on a dark night!) ! LOL! It has some meaning in line with the theme of the video-we just gotta find out/or figure it out. Now there's a question for Shania instead of what would she be if not a singer/songwriter! LOL DOC

Unfortunalty the talking heads interviewing her on TV don't have a clue. Shania must get sick of them asking her the same questions over and over and over again. Asking something like the meaning of things in her Ka-Ching video, I bet she would find interesting.

Good try Doc! It fits with Shania #3 (Eilleen), but somehow it must be connected too to the general symbolism, represented by the snake. Or not.

I familiar only with three-headed dog (Cerberus) or Dog with 100 eyes (Argus)

Mocha is a New-Funlander (Spl?) if I'm not wrong, and this dog is another bread.

i know only shania can answer about the three legged dog but i personally thought it represented that there are more important things in life then acquiring lots and lots of money or being greedy

Maybe it represented the ID, EGO, and SUPEREGO of Shania herself as portrayed in the video. There were 3 of them you know. Ah-what next? LOl

I think the Ka-ching video is the most challenging video Shania has ever made (with the possible exception of the When video). It is obviously laden with symbolism. The problem with this approach is that whereas at first it is intriguing to figure it all out, after a while you have gone as far as you can go in figuring it out and after that it just gets frustrating.

In terms of the feeling of this video, it leaves me uncomfortable. Perhaps that is the idea but I do not feel good watching it. The mood overall is dark. The interior of the hotel is dark and so is the casino, yet casinos are usually bright. Scenes of abandonment (the cars in the street, the deserted café) also lend a Twilight Zonish feel. The only bright parts of the video are garish - both the red and silver dressed Shanias - so that does not feel comfortable either. The three legged dog makes me feel very uncomfortable - it is freakish and pathetic. Perhaps the dog is a symbol of how freakish and pathetic we are if we get taken over by materialism.

I would give this video an A+ for symbolism, artistic effect and social commentary. It is miles ahead of almost all other music videos. In fact, it is in a category all its own. Bravo to Shania for breaking new ground!

But I still feel uncomfortable watching it.

The dog is a reference to the band "The Lost Dogs", they are a quartet that recently lost one of their members and actually have a song called "Three Legged Dog". The three legs represent the three remaining members of the band. They are an obscure group, but very talented. Check them out!

Or maybe it represents that although "all we ever want is more" there are those happy with what is considered less, three legs where there should be four.

Yeah, you're probably right! I mean everything does not have to have a DM (deeper meaning) does it?

That is ingenious, Joni. You know, it is quite possible that all kinds of curious things were thrown into this video without any underlying theme. Human nature being what it is, people will always supply meaning for themselves. I am reminded of one of Peter Sellers' last movies in which he played a mildly retarded man. Through some quirks of fate, people came to see him as a guru. His every utterance was simple and geared to the situation at hand yet people around him insisted on interpreting on imbuing his sayings with deep philosophical meaning.

If I can't find a clear meaning in this video or any work of art after a reasonable effort, I leave it and move on. I would rather not fall into the trap of the Peter Sellers movie.
