Ok, this must be from last winter (of 99). Not sure if anyone will remember. BMAC (or someone) posted information on the News section of STC about a 24/7 radio station (accessed online) playing all SHANIA SONGS ALL THE TIME. Does anyone remember this or have any helpful info on if it still exists or where I can find it?????
The station had to close down. According to broadcasting rules, only a certain number of songs by the same artist are allowed to be played per hour. So, there can't be a station dedicated solely to one artist.
The real reason for the close down was copyright infringement.
These are private stations on internet created by fans. Real boardcast station pays royalties to artists but not these stations.
So when Universal found out, they send them warning letters demanding them to shutdown.
I don't think boardcast rule in USA applies to these kind of stations (most are overseas). Also some countries have more liberal boardcast rules - they can do specials or marathon on just one artist so long as there is audience.

The 365live.com stations are allowed to play all BMI and ASCAP liscensed recordings by arrangement of the web site with the royalty organizations. However, you cannot intentionally play more than three songs by the same artist in a four hour period.
