LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Shortly after breaking off her engagement to cancer survivor and cycling superstar Lance Armstrong, rocker Sheryl Crow has undergone surgery for breast cancer.
Following her surgery Wednesday, "Crow's doctors call her prognosis 'excellent'," People said, adding that the Grammy winner "will receive radiation therapy treatment as a precaution."
Armstrong told People Saturday he was "devastated to hear this news."
"Once again I'm reminded of just how pervasive this illness is as it has now touched someone I love deeply," he said.
"Based on my contact in recent days with Sheryl, her doctor, and her family, I am confident that she will have a full and complete recovery and the world will be a better place for it.
"And to all of her fans and friends out there, please keep Sheryl in your thoughts and prayers yet know that I have never known a stronger woman in my life."
Crow, 43, and Armstrong, 34, split up earlier this month, five months after getting engaged.
Seven-time Tour de France Champion Lance Armstrong survived testicular cancer.
Crow said on her website she would postpone her North American tour, which was to run through March and April. She asked supporters to contact the Lance Armstrong Foundation's LIVESTRONG SurvivorCare to help other cancer survivors.
