Thank you for your reply. I also found that one on google, I thought it would be walking distance, but I guess it isn't.
I'll see if I get a chance to get there. I also found comments from people who said pawn shops sell guitars too (sometimes). I'll give it a look.

By the looks of it I'll be alone in Vegas for one day. Nice opportunity for guitar hunting

Eilleen, I would not suggest walking to any local pawn shops in Vegas. I've taken a taxi numerous times to the pawn shop that is on the History Channel show "Pawn Stars" and there is a few pawn shops around there, but I would never consider walking there for 2 reasons:
1) It's a longgggg walk (reread my first post).
2) The area you'd be walking through to get to the shops ARE NOT SAFE!!!!!!! You might be OK walking to there, but if you find a guitar to buy and start walking back to your hotel with it; you'd have a big bullseye on your back that every crack-head you pass along the way will notice.

Too bad, I was kinda hoping to be able to do pretty much everything by foot...

But if I go to a store like that, will there be taxi's over there? I know there are like a million taxi's on the Strip, but what if I leave the strip?

Eilleen, a few pawn shops are located on the Strip and you will be able to take a taxi there and pick one up at the pawn shop (espically at the Gold & Siler Pawn Shop, i.e, it is a big tourist draw because of the show); it should run you less than $10 each way for a cab ride or you can buy a 24 hour bus pass for $8 and have no problem getting back and forth from your hotel.

This is good advice as Vegas is not exactly a small-town friendly neighborhood. That said, I am not sure any neighborhood is like Maybery anymore.

Good point Steve. I can tell you from my experience that of all the times I've visited vegas I've never felt threatened, but i"m always keeping my guard up and I'm fortunate that I know a little bit about the town and that helps me deciede on where to go and not to go.

I have been to Vegas in 2009, but I have to say that we never left the Strip. We were in a motel just past Circus Circus, and that is about as fas as we got. We walked from Circus Circus to the other hotels, but I reckon the guitar shop I found is even further away. I'll see how it goes, otherwise, I'll take a cab.
