August 16, 2001-Shania Centre Birthday Party! The Shania Twain Centre in Timmins is planning a Shania Birthday party on Aug. 28 to celebrate Shania's 36 birthday and to inaugurate the diplay of new Shania collectibles in the centre exhibition area! Visitors will be able to see Shania's wedding dress among many new items! Here below is the official press release from Mr. Will Saari, the Centre's Manager. Thank you Will!
"The Centre Shania Twain Centre is pleased to announce "Shania's Birthday Party" to be held August 28th, 2001 on the site of the Shania Twain Centre. Organized in conjunction with the Shania Time Committee, a subcommittee of the Timmins Chamber of Commerce, Shania's Birthday Party will give local residents an opportunity to come out and enjoy free birthday cake, sign the gigantic Birthday card and take part in singing Happy Birthday to Shania. The song will be professionally videotaped and a copy will be sent to Shania so that she can enjoy a Birthday gift from her fans and supporters. During the festivities tours of the Shania Twain exhibit will be available at a special flat rate of $5 with children age 6 and under free when accompanied by an adult.
Organizers of the event are also very pleased to have the opportunity to highlight some new and improved exhibits at the Shania Twain Centre including Shania's Wedding Dress, a 3 metre tall Electronic Pipe Organ and an exhibit that highlights the Grand Opening of the Centre as well as a congratulatory letter received from Shania. In this letter, Shania thanks all of her fans and the City of Timmins for bringing the Centre to life and she also states that she is looking forward to her first visit to the Centre.
It is the hope of the organizers that there will be a large crowd in attendance for the singing of Happy Birthday outside the Centre in the parking lot, therefore free bus transportation to the site will be provided from the Tele-Tech Call Centre parking lot starting at 5:00 P.M. as there will not be on-site parking available. Alternatively, a pleasant walk that takes approximately 8 to 10 minutes from the downtown core and Timmins Transit main bus depot will bring visitors to the Centre.
Festivities are scheduled to begin at 6:00 P.M. and will commence with the singing of Happy Birthday, followed by the cake cutting ceremony and the signing of the Birthday Card. The Centre will extend its operating hours that day to accommodate everyone that may wish to tour the exhibit." :)

July 27, 2001-People Go to See Shania Centre! According to an article at the Timmins Daily Press website, many people are still going to Timmins to visit the Shania Twain Centre, whose official opening was last June 30. "A whole lot of boots have travelled through the Shania Twain Centre since it opened about three weeks ago. There still are between 150 to 200 visitors a day, said Will Saari, tourism and attractions manager for the City of Timmins. About 2,500 people had purchased tickets to see the centre on its opening weekend, June 30 to July 2. There were visitors from the United States, as well as Australia and England, for opening weekend. The out-of-town visitors are still coming in large numbers to view the centre." For Shania fans, this is no surprise! Click HERE to read the full article!

A thank you letter from the country singing superstar has finally arrived in the city of Timmins, where the new $5 million Shania Twain Centre opened nearly three weeks ago. There was some grumbling among fans and city officials on June 30 when there was no acknowledgement at all from Twain as the centre officially opened. The letter, dated June 30, was delivered by Federal Express to Timmins City Hall this week." Click HERE to read the full article!

July 20, 2001-Steve's Letter on Daily Press Website! Our Great Shania Fan Steve has sent in a letter to the Timmins Daily Press, thanking all those people in Timmins who have helped us out during our wonderful stay there. Here is an excerpt from his letter: "Shania fans say Timmins does have a heart of gold. HI, I AM a member of the Shania Twain North American Online Fan Club. As I'm sure most of you are aware, about 30 of us represented the fan club for the opening of the Shania Twain Centre. We had been planning this trip for well over a year once we became aware of the opening. As time was ticking down to June 30, we were all pretty excited about going to Timmins to see the event, and see Shania there for the dedication... We found that not only did you approve of us, but that you were very warm and friendly. Everywhere we went this is what we found. It made our trip that much better and more memorable. We especially want to thank Mayor Jamie Lim; Will Saari, Tourism Timmins; Dave McLaughlin of CKGB Radio; Corinna Wrona of MCTV News and the staff of The Daily Press. Special thanks also to Renee Ouellette of the Senator Hotel for taking care of our needs and making life easier for us during our stay. Thanks to Michele Chaput for a great tour of Timmins during our last snow-flurried day, and to anyone I may have overlooked, thanks again! Thank you people of Timmins for helping to make our stay in your city pleasant." Click HERE to read the full letter! Great word Steve! :)

July 6, 2001-Shania Sign Vandalized at Entrance to New Centre! It is sad to report that on July 3 some individuals have vandalized the Shania Sign at the Shania Twain Centre :( We are all confident that this is the action of an isolated person who simply cannot understand the beauty of Shania's music! The city of Timmins has promptly reacted by cleaning the sign. Thanks Timmins! From the Timmins Daily Press website: "Less than a week into business, the Shania Twain Centre has been the target of vandalism. Early Tuesday morning, someone spray painted an obscenity on the centres sign located on Park Road. Even vandals, however, could not dampen the upbeat spirit of officials connected with the $11-million tourist attraction. I heard about it, but I didn't see it myself, said Timmins tourism and attractions manager Will Saari. We sent a building and maintenance crew out and they cleaned it up." June 27, 2001-Shania Community Baby Shower! According to an article at the Timmins Daily Press website, the city of Timmins is organizing interesting activities to celebrate the opening of the Shania Centre. How about a Shania Baby Shower? "We're working on some really bizarre stuff, said Damini with a laugh. There's a baby stroller obstacle course race, contests in lullaby singing, pablum eating and the highlight, the messy diaper toss. It's zany, but its respectful of Shania in supporting her favourite charity, feeding needy children." Click HERE to read the full article!

June 27, 2001-Center Press Release....taped message of Shania?! According to an article on the Timmins Times, reposted by the Shania Twain Centre website, Shania will be communicating a message to all those who will be visiting the Centre this weekend, during the tour of the building. "It's time to celebrate. This weekend will mark the historic grand opening of the Shania Twain Centre, and presently, rumours are circulating that the country songstress will deliver a message to the City of Timmins. "It is rumoured that there could be some kind of acknowledgement by Shania on opening day," said Will Saari, Timmins Gold Mine Tour site manager. "If that's the case, then the people who take the tour of the centre will see the message." Saari indicated that the Gold Mine Tour site, which is where the Shania Twain Centre is  located, will have a "festival atmosphere" this weekend. "There will be a large variety of concession stands and children's games from 10 a.m. Saturday until late afternoon for the Shania Centre's opening as well as on Sunday to celebrate Canada Day," he said." June 13, 2001-Shania Shows Support for Wall of Fans Project. The Timmins Daily Press website posted an article on the "Wall of Fans" Project in Timmins and the recent news that Shania seems to support it. Although the wall has not found a permanent place yet and it will not be ready on time for the grand opening of the Shania Twain Centre, the artist who is creating it, Mr. Korycki, feels very confident about it: "Korycki and his partner in the Wall of Fans project, Andrea Love, wrote Twain a letter to get her input on the endeavour. Besides expressing how much she liked the idea, Korycki said Twain had suggestions about how the proceeds of the wall could be used. Korycki said one of Twain's ideas was to supply area schools with
scarves and mittens for kids who either lose theirs or just don't have any. Suggestions from other people, said Korycki, have included giving money to the Timmins Symphony Orchestra (TSO), creating a publishing house for Native artists and feeding the hungry." Click HERE to read the full article!

June 9, 2001-Open Letter From Will Saari, Director Shania Twain Centre-Timmins! We are happy to post an open message to all Shania Twain fans from Mr. Will Saari:
"Hello All
The Shania Twain Centre is coming along very well and the building is starting to look very impressive, especially with the granite walls going up and exhibits starting to go in next week. I must say, though, that I am somewhat disheartened by the recent postings on on-line auctions like e-bay of some of our promotional materials like the Shania-Time buttons and our brochures being offered for exhorbitant prices when these items are easily available at cost, or even free.
The Shania-Time button initiative was undertaken by the Timmins Chamber of Commerce as a way of promoting all of the various activities taking place in Timmins this summer. These buttons are available from the Chamber at $2 CDN each and yet are selling on-line for up to $20 US....sickening.
The Shania Twain Centre brochures are also apparently selling on-line and yet are available free to anyone who requests one from us at info@shaniatwaincentre.com
and we will mail it to you at no charge. I guess we can't stop anyone as a private individual who wishes to take advantage of all the Shania fans out there, but it personally makes me sick that someone would stoop so low as to sell something that is available free, especially since it seems that some of this stuff is coming from someone in Timmins. I want everyone to know that this is an isolated situation, and I hope that it is realized that this type of behaviour is the exception in Timmins and
 not the norm.
Anyway, thanks for the chance to vent, and I want you to know that the Centre is
coming along well and we are looking forward to seeing everyone in Timmins on June 30th.
Thanks
Will Saari
Site Manager Shania Twain Centre."

June 8, 2001-Shania Centre Attracts Politicians As Well! According to an article posted at the Timmins Daily Press website, the Shania Centre has dazzled a Cabinet Minister! Here are the details: " The minister of Northern Development and Mines Dan Newman put on his tourist cap, and a hard hat too, while visiting Timmins Thursday. Newman toured the Shania Twain Centre, which is still under construction, before heading to a Progressive Conservative fund-raising dinner. The centre was Newman's first stop after getting off the airplane. He liked what he saw. I'm absolutely impressed, he said. It's fabulous. The people of Timmins and area should be very proud. Newman liked some parts of the centre more than others. I like the interpretive component, he said. I know my children would look forward to something like that." May 19, 2001-Timmins' Centre to Show The Timmins Girl. The Timmins Daily Press website has posted an article on the latest news regarding the Centre tickets for the opening weekend and what the Centre will be for the city of Timmins. The emphasis, as presented by the Centre Director Will Saari, and the Mayor of Timmins Jamie Lim, is on introducing the fans to the community and the people of Timmins, the culture and the values of a city Shania well represents: "Canada's newest and most promising international attraction will soon be open and the world will be coming to Timmins, she added. On June 30, many of Shania's fans from throughout the world will descend on Timmins to get a taste of why Shania is so proud of her home town. Lim said the new centre will provide some insight into our community, our roots and our cultural diversity. The music-related exhibits and interactive displays will allow visitors to experience how music is recorded. I also hope that while viewing the memorabilia exhibits and displays for the first time, our youth will be inspired and that they will take the time to dream the dream the same dream that a young Eileen Twain had several years ago."
